Job summary

Baxter & Woodman is seeking a Traffic Engineer Technical Lead to guide traffic engineering and transportation planning across multiple states. The role emphasizes leadership, project oversight, and collaboration with state, county, and private clients.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive traffic engineering and transportation experience.
• Strong knowledge of traffic operations, traffic safety, traffic signal systems, and planning principles.
• Experience managing and reviewing traffic impact studies, signal improvements and related projects.
• Ability to travel throughout Illinois service areas (own transportation) and attend client/in-office meetings.
• Independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
• Team-first culture that encourages development and goals achievement.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
• Lead, manage, and review traffic impact studies, transportation analyses, and corridor evaluations.
• Lead, manage, and review preparation of traffic signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, and MOT plans.
• Serve as a technical resource and mentor to engineering staff.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control reviews.
• Lead or support proposal preparation, client presentations, and business development activities.
• Assist with traffic-related strategic growth initiatives within the transportation practice.
• Develop and implement QA/QC standards to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Stay current on FHWA guidance, MUTCD, and evolving best practices.
