Job description

Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Traffic Engineering Lead in our South Carolina office. This position will lead all aspects of our South Carolina traffic engineering group and can be based in Columbia, Charleston or Greenville.

The successful candidate for Traffic Engineering Lead will provide technical leadership, project oversight, and client-facing expertise for a wide range of traffic engineering projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership, mentoring, and business development skills.

The Traffic Engineering Lead will serve as a subject matter expert, guide project teams, and help grow and advance the firm’s South Carolina traffic engineering practice.

Expertise
  • Lead and oversee preparation of: Road Safety Assessments.
  • Traffic Impact Studies (TIS/TIA).
  • Traffic operational analyses.
  • Signal timing and coordination plans.
  • Signing, striping, and pavement marking plans.
  • Traffic control plans (TCPs).
  • Safety Studies.
  • Traffic simulation modeling
  • Working knowledge of the latest traffic engineering/simulation software programs, including HCS, Synchro, Sidra, and Vissim.
  • Provide QC/QA review of traffic deliverables.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical lead on traffic engineering projects.
  • Lead and grow traffic engineering staff.
  • Serve as primary traffic engineering point of contact for clients and support proposal development (DOT, municipal, private clients).
  • Assist with strategic growth of traffic engineering services.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulations and emerging technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BSCE from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of South Carolina or the ability to obtain a South Carolina PE license within 6 months.
  • 8 to 15 years of progressive traffic/transportation experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in developing/managing staff.
  • Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
  • Certified Road Safety Professional (RSP).
  • Ideal candidate will also possess the following:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A strong understanding in developing all project management controls, including scope development, proposals, budgeting, scheduling, staff management, and quality assurance and control.
  • The ability to manage AND assist in the production of design deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Microstation and AutoCad (or equivalent) design platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including a working knowledge of Excel.
