Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking a traffic intern to assist with permit issuance, plan reviews, and field inspections on department right of way. You will collaborate with contractors, developers, and governmental entities to ensure compliance with specifications and permits.

You will help review plans for drainage, sight distance, landscaping, and traffic flow; assist with work zone analysis and traffic studies, and prepare reports for presentations in meetings.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program.
• GPA of 2.0 or higher (out of 4.0) required.
• Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing and issuing permits for work on department right of way.
• Meet with contractors and stakeholders to explain procedures and policies.
• Review proposed plans for drainage, sight distance, landscaping, and traffic impact; coordinate permit work.
• Review work zone requests; assess impact to traffic and community.
• Conduct field inspections and measure traffic control devices for compliance.
• Prepare reports and correspondence for department and public meetings.
• Support traffic engineering tasks such as striping layouts and signal studies.
