Responsibilities
- Serve in a technical role under the direction of a Project Manager on traffic design and analysis projects including signal design, pedestrian facilities, pavement marking and signing, operational analysis, traffic signal systems and safety studies.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Traffic EITs and design teams to prepare PS&E plans (traffic signal design, lighting, sidewalks, pathways, cycle tracks, curb ramps, pavement marking, traffic control plans) for state and local agencies.
- Develop traffic studies such as traffic impact analyses, signal timing plans, microscopic and macroscopic simulation modeling.
- Evaluate roadway safety, prepare vulnerable user assessments, and provide design guidance to comply with community plans and objectives.
- Conduct safety analysis using a variety of safety software.
- Oversee work and mentor entry‑level designers, drafters and other EITs.
- Assume some project‑management duties and interact with clients as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Alaska PE
- Experience in traffic design including preparation of PS&E plans
- Working knowledge of ADA requirements; PROWAG is a plus
- Minimum 4 years of traffic design and analysis experience
Required Qualifications
- Experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Hands‑on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Guide Sign Software)
- Hands‑on experience conducting operational analysis using tools such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun
- Hands‑on experience conducting safety analysis using Highway Safety Software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee‑owned culture
