Job summary

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our growing Traffic/ITS Group in Lone Tree, CO, with opportunities in WA, TX, WA, and NC. You will design traffic components for design/build projects and coordinate across North America.

The role requires 3+ years in traffic engineering, a Civil Engineering degree, and EIT/FE. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, prepare reports, and support project delivery with safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience supporting transportation projects with traffic engineering analysis, design, or operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or FE exam required.
  • Experience in traffic engineering disciplines: Analysis/Modeling, Signing/Markings, Signals, Roadway Lighting design.
  • Working knowledge of ORD or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, TransModeler, HCS or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, analysis, and design of transportation projects across North America as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Support traffic engineering tasks from preliminary through final design: Traffic Analysis/Modeling, Signing/Markings, Signals, Lighting.
  • Apply traffic engineering principles to develop safe, efficient transportation solutions.
  • Review traffic operations, construction phasing, and maintenance of traffic plans for project delivery and safety.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to develop integrated solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, design documentation, and deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers, teams, and clients.
  • Support project teams in meeting quality, schedule, and budget objectives.

Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a dynamic Traffic Engineer in our growing Traffic/ITS Group in Lone Tree, Colorado (Denver Metro area); Westlake, Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area); Seattle, Washington; or Raleigh, North Carolina. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, MOT, pavement, utilities, drainage, roadway, rail, traffic, and materials disciplines. This infrastructure design group is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.

As a Traffic Engineer, you will be expected to coordinate with project teams in Canada, Mexico, and the United States to design and produce traffic engineering components for design/build and other alternative delivery projects in North America.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience supporting transportation projects with responsibilities related to traffic engineering analysis, design, or operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
  • Experience in one or more of the following traffic engineering disciplines:
    • Traffic Analysis and Modeling
    • Signing and Pavement Markings
    • Traffic Signals
    • Roadway Lighting and Electrical Design
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer (ORD) or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with traffic analysis and simulation software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, TransModeler, HCS, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and contribute to projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
