Job summary

Wright is seeking a Traffic Controller in Hazleton, PA. The role starts at $15–$16 hourly with on‑the‑job training, weekly pay, and overtime opportunities. No prior experience is required as you help create safe work zones for construction teams.

Qualifications

• Reliable transportation to job sites and possible carpooling.

Responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones with signs, cones, and barriers per ATSSA/DOT rules.
• Load and unload work zone equipment to/from the company vehicle at the job site.
• Complete and submit all paperwork before leaving the last job site.
• Wear and maintain PPE per Wright policy.
• Keep company vehicles clean and report safety concerns or vehicle problems to management.
• Review start time and job-site address as provided by the office scheduler.
• Read Wright safety manual and employee handbook.
• Reports directly to a Field Supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

The Traffic Controller works with construction teams to ensure that automobiles and pedestrians do not interfere with, or pose a danger to, laborers and their projects. Candidates must become certified in basic traffic safety techniques by attending a training class provided by the company. The Traffic Controller must create a safe work zone that ensures traffic does not cause a threat to the workers. This involves setting up cones and barriers that show traffic where to drive, as well as holding up signs that tell traffic to either stop or to proceed slowly. Traffic Controllers must constantly be aware of both the construction and traffic activity taking place around them. Compliance with all safety regulations is mandatory.

The Traffic Controller’s principal activities are performing traffic control and flagging duties at assigned job sites, including setting up, maintaining, and removing temporary work zones. Driving or traveling from the employee’s home to the job site (or, if applicable, assigned meeting location) and from the job site (or, if applicable, assigned meeting location) to the employee’s home, whether in a personal or company vehicle, is not a principal activity of this position and constitutes non-compensable commuting time under the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable state law.

Responsibilities:

• Setup, maintain, and remove temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, and rumble strips according to ATSSA and DOT regulations
• Load and unload work zone equipment to and from the company vehicle at the job site
• Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner before leaving the last job site
• Wear and maintain proper PPE in accordance with Wright specific policy
• Ensure that company vehicles are kept clean and orderly and inform management of any safety concerns or vehicle problems
• Review start time and address of job site or meeting location (if applicable) as established and sent by office scheduler via company app
• Read and understand Wright safety manual and employee handbook
• Reports directly to a Field Supervisor
• Other job duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a smartphone with internet access for timekeeping and communication to receive work schedule
• Be able to work in all weather conditions and tolerate varying climates of heat, cold, and rain
• Pass a drug screen prior to employment and maintain a drug free status
• Be able to stand throughout your entire shift, hand and arm movement is required
• The position does not allow for frequent breaks
• Be able to lift 50 pounds
• Be physically capable of performing all flagging duties
• Have reliable transportation to and from job sites. All employees are permitted to drive their own vehicles to the job site or assigned meeting location. Driving of, or riding with, crew members to and from the job site or assigned meeting location, whether in a personal or company vehicle, is voluntary carpooling for the convenience of the employees.
