City of Salina is seeking a Traffic Control Laborer for the Public Works / Traffic Control division. This temporary role supports maintenance and installation of traffic devices and road markings to promote public safety and smooth traffic flow.

The position requires 18 or older, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks. The job involves outdoor work, heavy lifting, and shifting schedules during the season.

Qualifications

• Eighth grade or higher required; HS diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be 18+ years old and possess a valid driver's license.
• Pass background checks.
• Must be prompt and able to work shifts.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices (stop signs, yield signs, signals) following safety standards.
• Paint and repaint roadway markings, including school zones and bike lanes, using reflective materials for visibility.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions; lift materials up to 100 lbs occasionally and up to 50 lbs frequently.

TRAFFIC CONTROL LABORER

City of Salina, Kansas

Public Works / Traffic Control

Temporary / Seasonal

The Traffic Control Laborer position is integral to the city's infrastructure, playing a pivotal role in both the daily functionality & long-term planning of Salina's transportation network. This person will help with painting & sign replacement that will directly impact public safety by reducing incidents & ensuring orderly traffic flow.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Traffic Device Maintenance & Installation: Participates in the installation, maintenance, & repair of critical traffic control devices, including but not limited to stop signs, yield signs, & traffic signals, ensuring compliance with national & state safety standards while enhancing public visibility.
• Roadway Marking: Plays a key role in the painting & repainting of essential road markings, covering complex layouts like school zones & bike lanes, utilizing reflective materials to optimize nighttime & inclement weather visibility, thereby aligning with broader municipal safety protocols.

Education:

• Eighth grade graduate minimum.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.

Experience:

• Work experience with measuring devices such as steel tape measures, levels & plumb bobs, calipers & feeler gauges.
• Related outdoor work such as maintenance of structures, exterior painting, post installation, & physical labor to include lifting materials above the waist.
• Previous work with projects requiring attention to detail & time management.

Work Type:

• Heavy, exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force continually to move objects.
• Works outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Requirements:

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
• Must possess valid driver's license.
• Must pass background checks.
• Must be prompt & available to work shifts.
• Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision.

Equipment:

• Variety of tools & machinery used in traffic control tasks, including paint machines, paint rollers, paint brushes, drills, saws, vehicles, steel tape measures, levels & plumb bobs, calipers & feeler gauges.

Hours:

• Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; 40 hours per week available.
• Position typically works for 10 weeks up to 20 weeks per season.

Pay EOE:

• $16.00/hr.
