Job summary

AWP Safety is seeking individuals for Protector roles at various job sites. No experience or degree is required; comprehensive training is provided. You’ll support traffic management, follow safety procedures, and work with a team to keep sites safe.

The position involves outdoor work all year and shifts that may include nights or weekends. Paid training is provided along with a traffic safety certificate and opportunities for advancement as Senior Protector, Lead Protector, or Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Requires no experience or degree; training provided.
• Must pass pre-hire screening including drug test.
• Must stay alert around traffic and follow safety rules.
• Team-oriented and reliable with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

• Set up cones, signs, barricades and remove traffic control gear.
• Use stop/slow paddle to guide traffic and monitor activity.
• Follow safety rules from training and communicate with crew.
• Work outdoors year-round in all weather.
• Stand or walk 8 to 12 hours per shift.
• Shift schedules may include nights, weekends, or emergencies.
• Provide required PPE: hard hat, goggles, vest, whistle, walkie talkie, weather gear.
• Bring steel-toe boots above the ankle.

As a Protector, you work with a team at job sites. No experience or degree is needed. Safety comes first—always. We train you. We support you. We help you build a career.

Daily Responsibilities

• Setting up cones, signs, and barricades and taking traffic control equipment down
• Using a stop/slow paddle to guide traffic, watching traffic and job site activity
• Following all safety rules taught in training
• Communicating with your crew and supervisor
• Helping keep vehicles and equipment clean and safe
• Working outside all year, in all weather
• Shifts may change based on job needs: Some nights, weekends, or emergency work may be required
• Stand or walk 8 to 12 hours per shift
• Hard hat, safety goggles, safety vest, safety whistle, walkie talkie, and cold/hot weather gear are provided. Bring steel‑toe safety boots that go above the ankle.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license
• Able to stand, walk, and work outside for long periods
• Able to lift 40–50 pounds
• Willing to work in traffic and changing weather
• Flexible schedule; show up on time, every shift
• Must pass pre‑hire screening, including a drug test (this is a safety‑sensitive job)
• Stay alert around moving traffic and follow all safety rules all the time
• Treat coworkers, clients, and the public with respect

Additional Information

Pay:

• $17.81–$19.64 per hour
• Overtime available
• Pay increases in your first year
• Paid training and a traffic safety certificate
