Description
Position Title:

Traditional Trades Advancement Program - Fort Pulaski National Monument - Non-AmeriCorps

Purpose:

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the Fort Pulaski National Monument will host a Build Up participant to serve on site.

This Build Up position is an hourly service position with a pay rate of $25/hr. Build Up participant will be working with the park’s Resource Management team and Preservation Maintenance team on material testing, project planning, technical writing and drafting, weekly reporting, documentation using photography and field notes, and condition assessments for planned projects at Fort Pulaski. Trades work for the projects will be primarily completed by the park’s Preservation Maintenance Team, and the service member will be supporting projects with technical assistance.

Description of Duties:
  • Technical writing and drafting for upcoming site projects
  • Maintain ongoing technical assistance to Preservation Maintenance team
  • Masonry, carpentry, woodwork, plaster, metal, and painting of historical structures and site elements
  • Replacement, repair, and removal of decaying historic structural materials and fabrics
  • Assist Resource Management Team in the preservation of original fort doors, including documentation, reporting, and testing
  • Wood and iron treatment experience will be done with oversight from Preservation Maintenance team leaders
  • Partake in direct work with park Exhibits Specialist and Engineering Technician on scheduling and outlining annual deferred maintenance tasks
  • Inventory tools and equipment
  • Assist members of the visiting public with directions and site information while working on site projects
Qualifications:
  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident
  • Must be 18-30 years of age, maximum 35 for Veterans with DD-214
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
  • Flexibility to work outside of traditional hours may be required
  • Physical effort is heavy to moderate for this position and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50lbs, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions
  • Interest in using hand and power tools in an outdoor setting to complete projects
  • Ability to commute to project site daily
  • Operates as a good team member within work crew and follow daily direction
  • Follow HPTC's project agreement and safety plan
  • Be respectful of all members or crew and supervisor staff

  • Public Land Corps Hiring Authority Eligibility - must meet 640 hours of service
