Job summary

Indian River County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an experienced maintenance worker to perform a range of roadway construction tasks including concrete sidewalk repair, asphalt patching, guardrail maintenance, drainage work, and irrigation system repairs. The role requires five years of skilled labor and a valid Class E license.

Responsibilities

• Repairs sidewalks by removing, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
• Repairs uneven sidewalks by grinding concrete.
• Performs duties to place hot mix asphalt in patches or potholes within roadways.
• Maintains guardrails and performs repairs as needed.
• Removes and replaces drainage pipes and structures as needed.
• Repairs or replaces irrigation systems as needed.
• Constructs concrete or rip-rap headwalls using various techniques.
• Constructs and repairs stormwater inlets as needed.

Indian River County

Working under general supervision of the Foreman/Manager performs various maintenance activities using general maintenance, carpentry, asphalt, and masonry skills to repair/install, drainage pipes into drainage structures, sidewalks, roadway repairs, or a combination of these skills for the maintenance of County infrastructure within road rights-of-way or on County property.

• Repairs sidewalks as needed by removing, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
• Repairs uneven sidewalks by grinding the existing concrete.
• Performs duties as needed to place hot mix asphalt in large patches or potholes within roadways.
• Preforms guardrail maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Removes and replaces drainage pipe and structures as needed.
• Repairs or replaces irrigations systems as needed.
• Constructs concrete or rip‑rap headwalls as needed using various types of construction techniques.
• Constructs and repairs various types of stormwater inlets as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High school graduate or GED and five years of working experience related skilled labor in the construction industry.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

• Must possess a valid Class E Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of tools and equipment used in carpentry, asphalt, masonry, irrigation and drainage pipe work as they relate to roadway construction activities.

Knowledge in the safe operation of various types of hand tools and power tools.

Knowledge of standard Florida Maintenance of Traffic processes and procedures.

Ability to interpret drawings and plans.

Ability to trouble‑shoot irrigation systems and make repairs.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions.
