Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia’s Facilities Management invites applications for a Trades Utility Technician. A full‑time role focused on relocating materials across Grounds, including laboratory equipment and supplies, and assisting with event setup and takedown.

The position requires a valid driver’s license; prior building trade experience is preferred. UVA benefits include PTO, holidays, retirement, tuition assistance, and wellness programs.

  • Communicate with customers regarding status of work orders and provide support as needed.
  • Perform work in accordance with safety rules and procedures (OSHA, federal, state, local).
  • Develop familiarity with skills and best practices of the trade; participate in training.

Overview

Facilities Management's Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Trades Utility Technician. A large part of this position will focus on relocating materials across Grounds, including laboratory equipment, pallets of supplies, as well as setting up and taking down for various events.

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia’s wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,100 employees dedicated to excellence, FM is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA’s buildings, infrastructure, grounds, and other University‑owned and leased properties.

Duties
  • Relocate materials across Grounds, including furniture, laboratory equipment, pallets of supplies, etc.
  • Assist with set‑up and take‑down for various events.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Communicate with customers regarding the status of work orders, providing additional support and problem solving, as needed.
  • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop an increasing familiarity with the skills and best practices of the assigned trade.
  • Actively participate in classroom and on‑the‑job training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Previous experience in a building trade preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour ($37,440 – $45,760 annually). This is a full‑time position with UVA benefits.

Physical Demands

Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs, and perform repetitive motions using both hands to complete jobs.
