We are seeking a dependable and physically able individual for a TEMP Trades Assistant position at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. The successful candidate will support the maintenance team by performing a variety of skilled and trade-related tasks, ensuring the university’s physical infrastructure and engineering systems remain functional, safe, and aligned with institutional needs.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance, installation, and repair tasks across several trades.
• Assist in construction and renovation projects, including the use of hand and power tools.
• Follow safety rules and procedures, including OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
• Develop familiarity with assigned trade skills and best practices.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
The role requires regular walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and climbing ladders or stairs. Tasks include lifting and carrying various weights, repetitive motion for grasping, pulling, pushing, and operating hand and power tools. Work may occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and environments.
The employee will fulfill duties as a "responsible employee" under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, including reporting incidents of sexual violence and other misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator or appropriate school designee and acting in the authority to redress such violations.
