Job summary

The Technical College of the Lowcountry seeks an HVAC Trades Specialist to perform quarterly preventive maintenance across rooftops, wall and window units, VAV boxes, air handlers, boilers and related systems. You will diagnose issues, repair, and optimize energy use with EMS data, while supporting campus events and emergency needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and formal training related to the area.
  • EPA license, HVAC certificates.
  • 2+ years experience with building or energy management systems.
  • 5+ years experience with commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Working knowledge of boilers and chillers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance on rooftop, wall and window units, VAV boxes, air handlers and boilers; diagnose issues and perform repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and electrical controls, boilers, chillers, pumps, valves, and ductwork.
  • Provide technical consultation on HVAC and electrical requirements for projects; ensure code compliance and cost projections.
  • Monitor and fulfill maintenance work orders and maintain EMS data.
  • Respond to emergency calls after hours and assist with college events.

Job description

Job Purpose

The HVAC Trades Specialist performs regularly scheduled quarterly preventive maintenance including but not limited to all rooftop units, wall units, window units, VAV boxes, air handlers, split systems, heating boilers during the heating and cooling seasons. Duties include: Changing filters, inspecting, adjusting, replacing drive belts, lubricating motor and shaft bearings, cleaning of condenser/evaporator coils, boiler tubes, and burner tables. Diagnosing issues and performing repairs.

Job Responsibilities

The HVAC Trades Specialist performs regularly scheduled quarterly preventive maintenance including but not limited to all rooftop units, wall units, window units, VAV boxes, air handlers, split systems, heating boilers during the heating and cooling seasons. Duties include: Changing filters, inspecting, adjusting, replacing drive belts, lubricating motor and shaft bearings, cleaning of condenser/evaporator coils, boiler tubes, and burner tables. Diagnosing issues and performing repairs.

Job Duties
  • Performs various maintenance functions that require knowledge of, sheet metal, schematics, blueprints and operation of hand and machine tools involved with maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing systems. Troubleshoot, repairs and overhaul pneumatic and electrical controls, commercial refrigeration compressors, centrifugal water chillers, two and four pipe water heating and chilling systems, boilers, pumps, valves, starters, condenser coils, filters, electrical heating systems, duct work, plumbing (including urinals, toilets, sinks, drain and water supply lines), and any other device that is part of the assigned facilities. Maintain refrigerant logbook.
  • Troubleshooting/testing of electrical control circuits, mechanical, refrigeration systems, identifying defective parts, obtaining quotes on parts for immediate procurement and repairing/replacing required parts as necessary.
  • Provide technical consultation to the Director of Facility Management for facility maintenance, repair and renovation including but not limited to the planning HVAC and electrical requirements for new construction and renovations. Assist in ensuring all work is code compliant. Layout and give cost projections for repair and remodeling projects. Perform various administrative functions such as completion of logs and historical records. Monitor and fulfill maintenance work order requests.
  • Manage and maintain the Energy Management System(EMS). Analyze data provided by energy management system. Implement hardware and software changes necessary to optimize building comfort and reduce energy costs.
  • At times performs the following: Assist other trades specialists in their duties, minor repairs and maintenance to equipment and tools, moves office furniture and arranges conference rooms and meeting areas as needed for various meetings and conferences, grounds keeping duties and minor plumbing repairs. Performs all other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor or vice president. Respond to emergency calls after normal working hours and/or be available to work as support services for college activities such as graduation and other college hosted events outside of normal work schedule. All other duties as assigned by supervisor or director.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and formal training or trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
  • EPA license,HVAC certificates.
  • 2+ years experience with building or energy management systems.
  • 5+ years experience with commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Working knowledge of boilers and chillers.
