The Trades Instructor will educate students using Apex curriculum to become proficient in their trade. The Trades Instructor is responsible for delivering and facilitating a prescribed curriculum through a combination of in-class/virtual theory-based instruction and hands‑on demonstration/application of skilled trades. The Trades Instructor will prepare and educate students to assume entry‑level positions within their respective trade. For the Automotive Repair Program, the instructor will provide instruction in automotive systems, diagnostics, repair procedures, preventive maintenance, and shop safety practices. The instructor will prepare students for entry‑level employment opportunities within the automotive service and repair industry.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in theory and hands‑on curriculum in a classroom and shop environment within the subject of automotive repair and maintenance.
• Teach students automotive diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and preventative maintenance techniques.
• Demonstrate repair and maintenance procedures related to engines, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical systems, HVAC systems, drivetrains, and fuel systems.
• Instruct students on the proper use of automotive diagnostic equipment, scan tools, lifts, hand tools, and power tools.
• Teach students how to read repair manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
• Explain and demonstrate automotive safety procedures, OSHA standards, and proper shop safety practices.
• Demonstrate vehicle inspection procedures and proper documentation of repairs and maintenance services.
• Teach students proper parts identification, measurement techniques, and repair estimation fundamentals.
• Determine the best method to deliver needed training and course instruction; prepare materials, locations, and supplies accordingly.
• Explain and demonstrate jobs and tasks to be performed.
• Explain, demonstrate, and emphasize all safety aspects of jobs and tasks; review any applicable job safety analysis with each student.
• Schedule, organize, and provide supplemental training when necessary.
• Conduct refresher training and make‑up sessions when necessary.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and shop areas are properly cleaned, stored, and maintained for optimum performance and safety.
• Guide, assign, schedule, and supervise the work of students; ensure work is completed in accordance with assigned curriculum.
• Ensure each assigned student follows all safety standards.
• Provide student evaluations based on performance and goals set by Apex curriculum in a timely and constructive manner.
• Compile accurate attendance records and grade entries and ensure they are maintained and submitted timely per state and accrediting standards.
• Ensure each assigned student follows all established rules and meets expectations for appropriate conduct within the school.
• Participate and successfully complete all professional development sessions as required by accrediting and state standards.
• Participate in all individual career development sessions as required.
• Maintain trades licenses and certifications as needed per state and accrediting standards.
• Function as an ambassador and liaison for Apex Technical School.
• Contribute to organization success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team results.
