Job summary

Fulton County Schools is seeking a Trades Helper to support assigned trade personnel in maintenance tasks across our facilities. You will follow directions, assist with tools and materials, and help complete projects independently when needed.

Required education includes a High School Diploma or GED (or two years of related experience); CDL-A and EPA licenses may be required for HVAC roles. The position is in Maintenance North with potential for varied shifts and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; in lieu, 2 years of relevant experience may be considered.
• Vocational school or equivalent training preferred.
• CDL-A required within 90 days; EPA license for HVAC roles within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assists mechanics by carrying tools and materials to the job; lifts and holds parts; cleans work areas.
• Works under the tradesperson's direction to use tools and operate machinery.
• Helps dismantle, overhauls, and assemble equipment and machinery.
• Cleans and washes equipment and machinery.
• Performs occasional tasks independently.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the administrator.

Essential Duties

• Performs manual tasks such as assisting mechanics in carrying tools and materials to and from the job; lifts and holds parts; cleans work areas
• Works under the direction of the tradesperson to use tools and/or operate machinery needed to complete assigned tasks
• Helps mechanics or tradespersons with dismantling, overhauling, and assembling of equipment and machinery
• Cleans and washes equipment and machinery
• Performs occasional tasks independently
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent in In lieu of Diploma or GED, will consider a minimum of 2 years of comparable experience

Vocational school or any equivalent combination of training and experience preferred

Certification/Licensure

• Valid Driver License required
• Must be insurable by Fulton County School insurance carriers
• Must submit a 7-year MVR (motor vehicle report)
• Must have a CDL-A or must successfully complete the CDL-A training provided through FCS within 90 days from date of hire
• For HVAC Positions Only: In addition to the above certification/licensure, must also currently have EPA License or have the ability to obtain the EPA License within 6 months of hire

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred

For HVAC Positions Only

• Minimum of 1 year of HVAC industry experience
• has completed HVAC Tech School
• is currently enrolled in HVAC Tech School required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Working knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment of the trade
• Knowledge of safety procedures
• Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal
• Must be semi-skilled in building maintenance procedures
• Must be able to complete simple tasks independently
• Must be able to work variable shifts

Working Conditions

• Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles
• Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity
• Must be able to climb tall ladders and work from scaffolds or lifts

Physical Demands

• Typically requires climbing ladders, pushing and/or pulling
• Requires manual dexterity skills
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry for short distances
• Frequently works with gloves and eye protection
