Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Trades Generalist to maintain and repair county facilities, ensuring spaces, structures, and infrastructure stay in good operating condition through routine or anticipated work.

Two shifts are available, with overtime differential for night/weekend hours. The role requires hands-on maintenance across multiple trades and the ability to work in office and field environments.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a variety of repair and maintenance tasks.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Maximo.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and correct all repairs tied to a work order, including routine and emergency tasks.
  • Respond to service calls across Maricopa County facilities and finalize work orders.
  • Replace air filters, belts, bulbs, switches, outlets, and low‑voltage motors on site.
  • Operate hand tools and power equipment to perform building maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Perform carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and mechanical maintenance as needed.
  • Use computers and mobile devices for time management, inventory, and work assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

The Trades Generalist is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of Maricopa County facilities, including keeping spaces, structures, and infrastructure in proper operating condition through a routine, scheduled, or anticipated fashion to prevent failure or degradation. Your expertise will be valued, and your knowledge will continue to expand as you build your career with Maricopa County.

We are currently hiring for two shift schedules:
  • Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Sunday - Thursday from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM

Note: Night/weekend shift will receive shift differential.

We Require
  • Two years of experience involving a variety of repair and maintenance tasks, including semi-skilled trades tasks
  • High school diploma or GED
Other Requirements
  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire and have an acceptable driving record
  • Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) background investigation to access County detention facilities

Job Contributions
  • Facilitate and correct all repairs associated with a specific work order, including routine and/or emergency repairs
  • Respond to assigned service calls in person in all Maricopa County buildings, working within the system to finalize work orders
  • Replace air filters, drive belts, ballasts, light bulbs, light switches, wall outlets, and low-voltage motors, managing work priorities on site
  • Operate hand tools and power equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks
  • Perform other trades activities, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and mechanical maintenance
  • Operate computers and mobile devices for time management, inventory, work assignments, and other related functions
  • Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
  • Special working environments include, but are not limited to, adult and juvenile detention facilities, medical facilities (both detention and public health), forensics, courts, and related justice facilities
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware

Must be proficient with and capable of using basic hand tools, benders, cordless power tools, electrical testing equipment, including multimeter, clamp meter, megohmmeter, circuit tracer, etc. Must be capable of working with aerial lifts upon completion of County-provided training. Must be capable of using various forms of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required to fulfill the requirements of the position.
