Job summary

Washington Elementary School District 6 in Phoenix is seeking a Maintenance worker to join the Grounds/Craft team. Under general direction, you will complete work requests related to grounds, fencing, irrigation, sidewalks, and playgrounds, with emphasis on safety and minimal disruption to students.

This non-exempt position offers opportunities to perform preventive maintenance, operate heavy equipment, and contribute to a well-maintained campus.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Performs site cleanup at day end and after job completion to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Review work orders, estimate hours, determine needed tools/equipment and safety precautions; document results after completion.
• Maintain chain-link fencing: install, remove, repair, lay out fence lines and set posts.
• Maintain concrete work including sidewalks, driveways, and related repairs; apply patching materials as needed.
• Maintain flood irrigation systems: gates, valves, trenches and underground waterways.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and chemicals used for grounds activities.
• Maintain playgrounds and recreation areas using tractors and attachments; prune and remove trees as needed.
• Attend meetings/seminars to stay current on federal/state requirements and licenses.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

Summary: Under general direction , incumbent(s) will be rsponsible for the completion of work requests in regards to the grounds/craft of the entire District including maintaining chain-link fencing, playground and recreational areas, concrete and structural areas, and flood irrigation systems.Incumbent will use his/her knowledge to solve problems and complete repairs with minimal impact to site, staff, and students.

Essential Functions:

• Performs cleanup at the end of the day or when the job is completed to ensure area is safe including cleaning up spills, picking up tools, cleaning area where job was completed and performing touch up work as needed. Operates the power sweeper to clean parking lots, driveways, basketball and volleyball courts and removes construction debris and trash materials with heavy equipment.
• Completes maintenance work requests by reviewing work orders, determing number of hours used to complete job, determining tools, equipment, and chemicals, and safety precautions, and documenting the results after project is completed.
• Maintains chain-link fending for the District by installing, removing, and repairing chain-link fencing, laying out new fende lines, setting posts, and installing new fabric,
• Maintains the concrete installation of the district by installing, removing, and repairing sidewalks and driveways. Applies asphalt cold patch to mend building, pads berms, speed bumps, sidewalks, handicapped ramps, and parking lots with asphalt cold patch. Repairs block construction, planter boxes, and walls of the District sites.
• Maintains flood irrigation system by installing, removing, and repairing concrete aprons, lawn values, flood control gates, concrete tile risers, irrigation trenches, and main underground waterway systems.
• Performs prevenitive maintenance on tools, equipment, and chemicals used for the grounds/craft of the District including cleaning and storing tools, equipment, and chemicals properly.
• Maintains playground by mowing, grading, leveling, discing, reseeding, and fertilizing school fields with use of tractors, mowers, and power attachments. Plants, prunes, and removes trees at the district sites.
• Maintains school recreational areas by constructing and perserving sand and long-jump pits with use of backhoe tractor and hand tools, and installing, removing, and repairing playground equipment.
• Attends meeting and seminars to stay current on federal and state requirements and maintains valid state licenses, permits, and certifications in regards to the grounds/craft position.
• Performs other job related duties as required.
