Role Summary
Ensure compliance with import/export regulations and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) operations concerning classification, valuation, quantity, origin declaration, Free Trade Agreement eligibility, ongoing process maintenance, FTZ processing, weekly entry, training, and other areas as identified by the business.
Role Responsibilities
FTZ Operations & Processing – 90%
- Perform daily HTS classification activities for parts and equipment.
- Manage daily FTZ operational processing including in-bonds, e-214 processing, validation, special vehicle processing, weekly entry, Month Close processing, Post Entry.
- Liaise with brokers on customs clearance to ensure timely and accurate import/export activities.
- Lead and conduct entry audits for compliance.
- Identify duty reduction opportunities through misclassification searches and customs rulings.
- Support supply chain decisions to minimize duties.
- Maintain internal control programs for compliance.
- Interpret laws/regulations, product descriptions, tariff codes, and origin for compliance issues.
- Provide expertise on FTZ admission, entry, inventory control, export, and destruction.
- Review FTZ reports and ensure timely submissions.
- Interact with stakeholders to ensure compliance and good standing.
- Represent VW to government agencies as needed.
- Provide detailed reports to management.
- Verify country of origin for FTA purposes.
- Manage vehicle removal approvals and prototype vehicle tracking.
- Lead IT process changes for removals.
- Develop knowledge of freight forwarding and customs requirements.
- Maintain US customs documentation and compliance.
- Understand export requirements and ensure proper export procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Financial Reporting and Support – 10%
- Support customs duty accruals, projections, and tariff reporting.
- Serve as contact for C-TPAT portal and security validation.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years in a customs-related field.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Political Science, or equivalent experience.
- Desired: Licensed US Customs Broker.
Skills

Specialized Skills
- Knowledge of customs valuation, reconciliation, audits, classification, PGA requirements.
- Understanding of Duty Drawback, FTA, FTZ operations.
- Knowledge of logistics, inventory, MRP, and database management.
- Ability to analyze data and conduct audits.
- Ability to work independently and establish relationships with IT and other teams.
Work Flexibility
- Minimum 40 hours/week, including occasional overtime and Saturday work.
- Travel may be required (2-3 times/year).
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform desk work.
