Job summary

FedEx Corporation is seeking a Full-time Tractor Trailer Apprentice to operate a tractor-trailer and mechanized loading equipment on an AM shift, with an additional PM shift and assignment TBD by the local bid process. The position requires a High School diploma or GED, 21+ years old, ability to lift 50 lbs, and willingness to obtain CDL with HazMat endorsement within 90 days.

Station work includes sort and aircraft operations; customer contact is required, and safety compliance with FMCSA rules

Job description

Drives tractor-trailer vehicle to designated locations and operate mechanized loading/unloading equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. This is for one AM shift and one PM shift with assignment TBD based on local shift bid.

Station runs are required to work both sort operations and aircraft operations. Participation in both areas is mandatory.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma/GED

Minimum Experience

Six (6) months FedEx Express experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to drive manual transmission preferred. Ability to operate mechanized loading/GSE. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to maneuver packages of any weight above 50 Lbs with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person. Customer contact & package handling experience preferred. Good human relations & verbal communication skills. Neat appearance since customer contact is involved. Must be at least 21 years of age. Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officials and to respond to official inquiries and directions in accordance with FMCSA enforcement guidance.

Job Conditions

FMCSA covered safety sensitive position. Medical exam required. Subject to regulatory alcohol & drug testing, which includes testing for marijuana, PCP, amphetamines, cocaine & opioids. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Must obtain & maintain valid commercial driver's license (CDL) & a hazardous materials endorsement (HME) for type of vehicle assigned within 90 days & have good driving record as outlined in policy. Neat appearance since customer contact is required.
