Job summary

Peterson Cat in The Dalles, OR seeks a Tractor Trailer Driver to operate, load, unload, and transport rental equipment. You will follow dispatch instructions, perform DOT-compliant safety checks, and maintain accurate logs and documentation. This on-site role requires a Class A CDL and a minimum of three years’ driving experience.

You will deliver to customer sites, ensure vehicle readiness, and uphold a professional image while coordinating with the Dispatcher and Manager. Uniforms are provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Completion of certified truck driver training program.
• Minimum three years of related commercial driving experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate, load, unload, secure, and transport rental equipment using delivery trucks and trailers.
• Follow delivery and pickup instructions from Dispatcher and/or Manager.
• Perform daily vehicle safety inspections in accordance with DOT regulations.
• Maintain a Record of Duty Status log and ensure registrations and insurance are current.
• Deliver and retrieve equipment to and from customer sites while maintaining a professional image.
• Work on an on-call basis for emergency equipment deliveries and maintain punctual attendance.

Job Description

Peterson Cat has a need for a Tractor Trailer Driver at The Dalles, OR location.

Essential Job Functions

• Operate, load, unload, secure, and transport rental equipment using delivery trucks and trailers.
• Follow delivery and pickup instructions from Dispatcher and/or Manager.
• Maintain a safe working environment and observe all company policies as well as Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier safety procedures, laws, policies and rules.
• Maintain an accurate Record of Duty Status log.
• Perform daily vehicle operational safety inspections in accordance with DOT regulations.
• Monitor, maintain, and inspect assigned delivery vehicles in accordance with manufacturer, company, and DOT guidelines.
• Ensure all required registrations, proof of insurance, permits, and inspection reports are current and valid.
• Deliver and retrieve equipment to and from customer sites.
• Inspect equipment for damage when picking up equipment from customers.
• Determine each customer's ability to use the equipment in a safe manner.
• Demonstrate use of rental equipment to customers.
• Track and maintain truck equipment inventory.
• Fuel, wash, maintain, and track usage hours of rental equipment as directed.
• Promote positive company image through professional conduct and truck appearance.
• Accurately relay customer concerns and feedback to the appropriate person.
• Complete all rental and related documents in an accurate and timely manner.
• Work on an "on call" 24/7 basis as required for emergency equipment deliveries.
• Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.

Other Job Functions

• Work overtime as needed within labor law and DOT guidelines.
• Must wear company provided uniform when performing the above-mentioned job functions.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
• Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers/ coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
• Respectfully take direction from supervisor/manager.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and completion of certified truck driver training program; and a minimum of three (3) years of directly related commercial driving experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENCENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Must maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements, current DOT Medical Certificate, and satisfactory driving record.
