Job summary

U.S. Xpress in Springfield, OH seeks a Tractor Technician III to diagnose, service, and repair tractors and related components on-site. The role requires extensive experience and DOT-compliant procedures, with mentoring duties for junior technicians.

Expect a full-time schedule Wednesday through Saturday, 6am–4:30pm, and a compensation range of $33.52–$37.24 per hour. Candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, ASE/DOT/AC/brake certifications, a valid license, and basic computer

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of tractor experience required.
• A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
• ASE Certifications preferred.
• DOT, AC, and brake certifications required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Ability to read and write.
• Must provide own hand tools that is adequate to perform job functions.

Responsibilities

• Test, service, and repair tractors and related mechanical components.
• Perform in depth diagnostic and repairs on engines, transmission, driveline, HVAC, electrical, suspension, brakes and air systems etc.
• Act as a mentor and trainer to Tractor Tech I and II’s as needed.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion.
• Drive trucks in and out of shop before and after repairs.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or better than SRT times.
• Repair/replace bolts on body parts such as hoods and cab extenders.
• Perform DOT inspections as outlined in USX guidelines.
• Perform open seat inspections to prepare tractor for next driver.
• Perform 90 day lease operator inspections.
• Clean and maintain work area on a daily basis.
• Perform basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring etc.
• Perform basic and routine preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers as outlined in USX pm guidelines.
• Check vehicle fluids (e.g. transmission, oil, windshield wiper, antifreeze, etc.).
• Change vehicle tires.
• Grease mechanical parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
