This federal position at Trident Lakes Golf Course Branch supports Morale, Welfare and Recreation at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. You will lead tractor operators, train greenskeepers, and ensure proper use of mowers, trucks, and power equipment to maintain golf course grounds.

Job description

Summary

This position is located at the Trident Lakes Golf Course Branch of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. The purpose of this position is to lead and work alongside tractor operators/greenskeepers, and to train and evaluate them in the proper use and operation of hand and power tools, mowers, tractors, trucks, and other power equipment needed to maintain tees, greens, fairways, sand traps, roughs, trees, and shrubbery.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Operates gas and diesel powered tractor drawn and tractor powered mowing equipment and instructs others in the proper use of this equipment, including a 3, 5, 7, and 9 gang real mower, off-set counter-balanced rotary mower, sand trap rake, fertilizer spreader, sod cutter, stump remover, front-end loader, back-hoe, and grading blade.
  • Operates a dump truck and other types of heavy duty equipment and teaches co-workers in the proper use of this equipment that is needed to do daily maintenance, make special repairs, construct new tees, greens, or hazards, and to do tree pruning, trimming, or planting.
  • Mows lawns, fairways, roughs, and tees at designated cuts; removes debris, dead gras, broken tree limbs, leaves, and keeps assigned areas clean, presentable, and as attractive as possible, depending on the season and weather conditions.
  • Applies the proper amount of fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and nemacides according to the manufacture's directions and instructions and instructs others in the proper handling techniques of the above chemicals.
  • Digs trenches, cleans ditches and removes weeds around buildings, fences, shelters, tee markers, yardage identification markers, trees, shrubbery, cart paths, sidewalks, and other such locations using hand tools, such as a shovel, hoe, rake, pruning sheers, and othe5r types of specialized hand tools.
  • Maintains, repairs, and installs watering system lines, sprinkler heads, and low voltage electric lines and switches associated with an automatic watering system and teaches others how to work on the watering system.
  • Operates a truckster, trap trimmer, portable pump, utility mowers, weed eaters, and several types of hand tools.
  • Uses gas powered mechanical golf ball retriever to pick up range balls.
  • Loads and unloads resale and stock merchandise from cars and trucks, moves furniture, chairs, and tables, supplies and stock and does maintenance and repair work such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on gas and diesel powered machinery.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Conditions of Employment
  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and arm and leg movement to work tractor controls.
  • Frequently lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance or with mechanical lifting devices.
  • Operators are subject to drafts, noise, and varying temperatures. Exposed to weather and temperature extremes outside, as well as high noise levels, vibrations, and jolts from tractor and towed equipment. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and fumes.
  • Must follow safety practices and wear issued safety equipment.
  • Work is performed both inside and outside - will be exposed to extreme heat/cold.
  • Must currently be employed by MWR Kings Bay, GA.
Qualifications

Experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Must have a high degree of skill to maneuver driver operated machinery in small places, tight and confined spaces, in small turning radiuses, and on hills, and steep grades.
  • Must have a high degree of manual skill and prior work experience to work safely with powered hand tools.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and accomplish work independently and with minimal supervision.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
