Description

Join a team of track laborers with a record of building and repairing railroad tracks for Union Pacific over 150 years! As a Track Laborer - Regional, you will play a vital role in the upkeep and enhancement of the tracks within your designated territory. By conducting essential maintenance, repairs, and installations, you will ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains, enabling Union Pacific to effectively serve its customers across North America. Required Certifications: This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon hire. You must meet the following Motor Vehicle and Medical Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Have valid driver's license
  • Have an acceptable driving record per your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

Medical Requirements: Must meet the medical requirements (also called physical qualifications) for commercial motor vehicle drivers as specified by the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The FMCSA physical qualifications for drivers can be found on the FMCSA homepage. Health and Medical Services at Union Pacific Railroad will make the final determination on whether or not an individual meets the FMCSA medical qualifications, and may add additional medical requirements to ensure the person can safely perform job tasks, with or without accommodation.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle controversy
  • Ensuring strict compliance with all safety regulations, operational guidelines, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements
  • Handle and transport track materials and equipment using appropriate load/unload devices
  • Perform regular maintenance on tracks, as well as repairing, installing, and removing components as needed
  • Maintain the trackbed, including tasks such as removing and replacing ballast, tamping ballast, and assisting with unloading ballast from ballast cars
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently to drive spikes, tighten or loosen track bolts, and remove spikes with pullers
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications - Required
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old
  • Possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) of either Class A or Class B
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, including operating and safety rules, bulletins, and federal regulations

Qualifications - Preferred
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work
  • Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions
  • Experience in construction environments
  • Proficiency in operating heavy machinery supported by experience
  • Strong welding skills or certification
  • Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, including weekends and holidays
Physical and Mental Job Requirements
  • Pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT), separate from medical exam
  • Engage in physically demanding tasks: bending, stooping, kneeling
  • Lift/carry up to 65 lbs, push/pull up to 119 lbs
  • Stand for extended periods, walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders
Work Conditions

  • Willing to use PPE and practice safety
  • Availability to work at various locations, with reliable transportation
  • Work near large equipment and in remote areas
  • Willing to travel as needed
