Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for maintaining the track and track bed in good condition, including checking for broken rails, defective switches, deteriorating track bed, obstructions, and weather-related issues.
  2. Perform track work tasks such as pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rails, bars, bolts, shoveling rock ballast, and working with track apparatus.
  3. Learn and apply FRA Track Safety Standards, GCOR, and RWP regulations, performing maintenance promptly.
  4. Operate equipment and tools safely and efficiently, including maintaining track maintenance equipment like track wrenches.
  5. Remove and replace ballast, operate hand tools (shovels, picks, axes, cutters, sledgehammers), and power tools (drills, impact wrenches, jacks, saws, grinders).
  6. Maintain accurate records of work performed, track conditions, and corrective actions.
  7. Assist in working on train cars as needed.
  8. Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Minimum of three years experience in manual labor or mechanical work.
  2. Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds occasionally.
  4. Skills in using hand tools and power tools, including hydraulic equipment.
  5. Experience reading safety manuals, operating instructions, schematics, and manuals is preferred.
  6. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  7. Flexible work schedule with possible overtime.

  4. Technical skills: performing duties competently with relevant technical knowledge.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, writing, talking, typing, and hearing. Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting/moving up to 80 lbs. Work outside in all weather conditions.

TRAVEL:

50%-75% travel expected.
