Milton Hershey School is seeking a Track & Field Varsity Head Coach for a one-year ancillary position. The season runs Feb through June with practices 3:00 pm–6:00 pm, and meets on weekdays after school or evenings. Off-season work is flexible.

Stipend ranges from $7,265 to $9,444 per season, based on experience. Lead all practices, recruit students, and develop talent pipelines. The role requires a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree preferred, and at least 3 years of coaching

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world’s best pre‑K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost‑free home and a top‑notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.

MHS provides enrolled students an amazing multitude of athletic opportunities, with access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities and programs led by committed coaching staffs. MHS offers Varsity, JV, Junior High, and Recreational teams for 15 sports and intramural programs. Athletic programs begin in Elementary and Middle Division and culminate to the Senior Division Varsity level. Our program has produced many successful seasons ending with Mid Penn Conference, PIAA District III, and PIAA State Championships. Many athletes also advance to play at the college level after graduation from MHS.

MHS is currently seeking a Track & Field Varsity Head Coach for a one‑year ancillary position. The Head Coach is responsible for leading the program year‑round to develop students athletically and competitively, as well as instilling character so they excel in their sport and in life. The season runs from February to June with practices from Monday through Friday 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Meets are held on weekdays after school/evenings with invitations and other events on some weekends. Off‑season work is flexible, but necessary for this position. Stipend amount is determined on experience, $7,265 - $9,444/season.

Key responsibilities

Planning and overseeing all aspects of the sport’s program.

Ensuring the program is competitive and character‑building.

Recruiting students to participate and collaborate with the primary and middle schools to develop talent pipelines.

Establishing year‑round strategies and processes to train & invest in student skill development.

Creating skill enrichment programs and opportunities.

Leading all practice sessions and coaching at all games and events.

Providing exceptional personal coaching and leadership of the players.

Hiring and maintaining coaching support staff.

Implementing creative strategies to offset unique circumstances of MHS’s programs.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience as track & field athlete. Experience competing at the college level a plus.

At least 3 years of successful coaching experience with demonstrated success in establishing a highly competitive program, while also instilling high‑quality character.

Must have current knowledge of techniques, rules and regulations, and training theory of the sport.

Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire diverse youth. Experience working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds is preferred.

Demonstrated exceptional organizational and planning skills.

Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and lead a team of coaches.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate & influence in cross‑functional settings.

Demonstrated skills in providing safe, structured skill development practice and playing experiences, while also developing high character student athletes.

Ability to build a network to facilitate new and creative opportunities.

Candidates must be eager to build the program & invest in student talent development year‑round.

Candidates must demonstrate high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students.
