Professional Experience/ Qualifications:

• The successful candidate will have combined responsibility for both the men’s and women’s teams, a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes, knowledge, and commitment to University, Conference, and NCAA regulations, good communication and technology skills, and strong leadership skills.
• Two (2) years of track & field coaching experience, with consideration provided to experience in high school and collegiate environments. (Comparable experiences as a professional athlete and/or through graduate assistantships or internships may be considered.)

Preferred Qualifications:

• NCAA Division I coaching or playing experience
• Knowledge of coaching throws
• Collegiate sport operations experience

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree is required.
A Master’s degree is preferred.

Certifications:

A current valid driver’s license, in accordance with the University’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for the execution of specific strategic activities and outcomes within the throws event groups of the track & field program. This position will also maintain oversight over team operations for the Track & Field program. These will include sustained performance and execution in the following areas:

• adhere to Head Coach’s philosophy
• athletic instruction/coaching
• program operations and administration as designated by the head coach

Coaching ResponsibilitiesResponsible for oversight of all administrative operations regarding student-athlete development. These will include:

• Monitoring of student-athlete academic progress and well-being
• Ensure student-athlete participation in all assigned community service activities

Responsible for the execution of all scouting, film preparation, and competition preparation. These will include:

• video breakdown
• use of appropriate video-editing software
• coordination of team film sessions
• development of scouting reports

Responsible for overall team recruitment strategy.

• Exercises independent judgment regarding recruitment of prospective student-athletes for assigned event groups.
• Decision-making authority to determine which individuals to recruit
• Decision-making authority in the allocation of scholarship allocations (as applicable)
• Attracting and evaluating prospective student-athletes
• Monitoring prospective student-athlete academic progress and well-being
• Developing and maintaining relationships with prospective student-athletes and other recruiting constituents

Accountable for maintaining personal compliance with all relevant governing bodies including:

• NCAA
• Patriot League
• Athletics Department
• University policies
• Attendance at all required compliance educational meetings
• Successful on-time completion of all recruiting logs

Accountable for maintaining professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. To include:

• Responsible for all newsletters and communication with alumni
• Responsible for team promotion and marketing to all constituents
• Responsible for determining communication strategy within university and local community

Independent and unchallengeable decision-making regarding student-athlete participation in assigned sport activities when head coach is not present.
Accountable for student-athlete welfare while coaching and responsible for role modeling behaviors and leadership for student-athletes.
Operational Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of team and staff recruiting travel including arranging flights, hotel accommodations, ground transportation, team per diem and trip itineraries.
• Reconciliation of team and staff travel expenses following University and Athletics Business Office policies and procedures.
• Manage procurement and purchasing for the program including negotiation with vendors (hotel, caters, transportation, etc.) for all program functions.
• Manage elements of budget for which they have oversight (e.g., travel, equipment, casual wage personnel) and make independent decision within approved fiscal year budget
• Manage all aspects of official and unofficial campus visits of prospect student-athletes; booking travel and hotel accommodations when applicable and submitting required compliance documentation.
• Develop and coordinate program correspondence to key constituents including donors, alumni, parents, and prospective student-athletes.
• Maintain confidential and routine records, such as financial aid records, NLI forms, budget reports, compliance forms, procurement documents, competition forms and student-athlete class schedules.
• Responsible for hiring, oversight and management of student managers. Assistant Coach has independent discretion on all hiring and termination of student employees.
