Our services include railroad track design, construction, repair, and inspections, as well as vegetation control and bridge track work. Job Summary

Track Crew Members are key members of FRC’s field construction teams. The Track Crew Member will perform all tasks associated with building, maintaining, and repairing railroad track and the related facilities. This position requires physical manual labor, assisted by hand and power equipment as appropriate, and is performed primarily outside in all types of weather. Track Crew Members must be able to travel within the United States, with overnight stays, long work-hour durations, and emergency response calls possible. The successful Track Crew Member will ensure understanding and adherence to all safety and jobsite needs/regulations with support from Foremen and Project Managers, will be a clear communicator, and will be willing to continuously learn through trainings and field experience.

Job Duties

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend job briefings, crew meetings, safety meetings, and other company meetings as scheduled
  • Focus on safety

-Follow safety regulations/protocols on the job

-Assist in ensuring that safe working conditions exist at all times

-Report unsafe conditions to supervisor and follow any other reporting protocols

  • Operate tools, equipment, and company vehicles in conformity with manufacturer requirements, FRC policies, safety requirements, and any site-specific regulations
  • Inspect and service any tool/equipment used in performance of job duties
  • Report safety or operational problems with tool/equipment to supervisor
  • Assist in loading/unloading railroad or other building materials
  • Assemble components in construction of railroad track and related facilities
  • Cut brush along tracks and lubricate switches, as needed
  • Complete and submit required FRC accounting, payroll, and other administrative forms

Work Conditions

  • Much of the Track Crew Member’s work is outdoors, in all types of weather
  • Physical requirements include:

-Frequent standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and similar movements

-Continuous sitting during training, when completing paperwork, traveling to/from jobsites, and operating equipment

  • Work may be performed in these locations:

-On or along railroad track that may be active during work times

-On a railroad track bridge, elevated walkway, or other areas of bridge structure

-Near or in coal/mineral mine site locations

-Wide geographical area requiring travel and overnight stays

  • Work may expose Track Crew Members to dust, railroad train traffic, highway traffic, loud noises, slippery or uneven footing
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used, which may include hard hat, safety glasses with side-shields, metatarsal guard safety work boots, etc.

-FRC will provide hard hats and safety glasses at no charge; if metatarsal boots are required, they may be purchased through the company

  • Work generally performed during daylight, but may occur at night depending on customer schedules and needs
  • Work may require long work-hour durations/rotations
  • Emergency response calls are possible at any time or day of the week

Required Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Able to pass federal drug and alcohol testing (pre-hire, random, post-accident, for cause, client contractual, etc.)
  • Function well in a team atmosphere
  • Willing to take instruction and learn from supervisors and others with jobsite responsibilities
  • Can communicate clearly and effectively with other crew members, FRC management and administration, customers, subcontractors, vendors
  • Assist all coworkers in performance of duties as needed
  • Comprehend and follow written and verbal training materials, regulation information, and instructions
  • Abide by all safety regulations of FRC, customers, OSHA, MSHA, and FRA
  • Attend all trainings/classes as scheduled by FRC and pass required exams, including but not limited to Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Safe Worker Training
  • Able to perform work duties in conditions as described above
  • Flexible to constantly changing work conditions, both as they relate to work schedule and project site conditions

Rate commensurate with experience and eligible for increases after successful 90-day orientation period
