Job summary

Jerome Joint School District 261 is seeking a Track Coach for Jerome Middle School in Idaho. The role focuses on providing leadership and motivation to students to excel in track while promoting physical wellbeing, character, and social development.

The coach will report to the Athletic Director and Building Principal, with required CPR/First Aid, concussion, and cardiac arrest certifications. A High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • One year of coaching experience or participation in a sport program at high school/college level.

Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision: ensure proper conduct at practices and contests; be present at practices and travel with team; teach sportsmanship; maintain eligibility records; report violations to Athletic Director.
  • Public Relations: ensure participants and staff present a positive image of school athletics; avoid negative public remarks; support school programs; show respect to opponents.
  • General: pursue professional growth; support policies; promote district program and recruit participants; maintain professionalism; prohibit alcohol/tobacco use in presence of athletes.

Job Description

Provide knowledge, motivation, and leadership in an activity where the student can excel to his/her full potential while competing in an atmosphere that adds to his/her total education including physical wellbeing, moral character, and social and mental development.

Reports To: Athletic Director, Building Principal, Coach.

Professional Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to work with students, coaches, administrators, and parents.
  • One year of experience coaching a specific sport or participation in a college or high school program specific to that sport, and multiple years playing at varsity or college level.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, concussion certification, and cardiac arrest certification.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Team Supervision:
    • Ensure appropriate team conduct at practices, contests, and during transportation.
    • Be present at all practices and contests with the team and remain at the practice/contest until all participants have left the facilities, including after road games.
    • Teach and practice good sportsmanship in regard to opponents, officials, team members, coaches and spectators.
    • Maintain accurate records of necessary forms for eligibility.
    • Report rule violations or suspected violations to the Athletic Director.
  • Public Relations:
    • Ensure all participants, including players, coaches, administrators, and parents provide a positive image of school athletics.
    • Refrain from making negative remarks in public. Assist the school and athletic programs.
    • Show respect for opponents and display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
  • General:
    • Continue professional growth by attending classes, clinics, workshops, and through affiliations with professional organizations.
    • Support administration and established policies and procedures.
    • Promote district program and recruit participants at all levels.
    • Maintain a professional manner at all times.
    • Use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco products in the presence of athletes is strictly prohibited.
