GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Assistant Park Superintendent and Park Superintendent, this position performs complex (journey-level) maintenance and construction supervisory work including specialty level maintenance, leadership, and administrative duties at Fort Parker State Park. The role serves as the Lead Ranger/Team Lead for field maintenance staff and is responsible for the duties of Additional Duty Safety Officer (ADSO). Responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems, ensuring regulatory compliance per TCEQ and TPWD. Conducts water laboratory testing, coordinates projects, supervises staff and volunteers, and performs maintenance on facilities, grounds, and equipment. Operates various equipment, manages procurement, and assists with budgeting and resource management. Supports natural and cultural resource management, interpretive activities, and enforces park rules. Works under general supervision, exercising initiative and judgment, and performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
  • Two years’ experience as a supervisor or team leader.
  • Valid state driver’s license at the time of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a class “D” Water and Wastewater license within one year of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Vocational training in electrical, carpentry, mechanical, or plumbing repairs.
  • Four years of maintenance experience, including water and wastewater operations.
  • Experience working with the public and with computers (Windows, Office, internet).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of park operations, maintenance, construction, resource management, and safety procedures.
  • Skills in communication, computer use, project planning, supervision, and manual repairs.
  • Ability to work independently, handle emergencies, and perform manual labor up to 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work in a public park, outdoors in all weather, including rugged terrain.
  • Respond to emergencies, operate a vehicle, and travel up to 5% with overnight stays.
  • Follow dress, safety, and work rules; non-smoking environment in buildings and vehicles.
