To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Bastrop State Park, 100 Park Road 1A, Bastrop, TX, 78602

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the supervision of the Bastrop State Park Site Manager and daily direction of the Lead Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for performing all phases of maintenance and repairs to facilities, to include carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, mainly on historic structures. Performs daily preventative maintenance (cleaning / inspecting) of public restrooms and rental facilities, including group facilities and fully furnished historic cabins. Performs all aspects of grounds keeping including, but not limited to trimming, weeding, mowing and herbicide/pesticide application in accordance with all State regulations. Operates and maintains all types of equipment such as hand tools, power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Assists with visitor services including providing customer service and information to park visitors. Supervises alternative workforce. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure :

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license.

    NOTE: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Education :

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of up to two years.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience working with the public.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of work site safety.

    Knowledge of general preventative maintenance (cleaning / inspecting) duties.

    Knowledge of standard construction repair and maintenance techniques; mainly on historic structures.

    Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, mechanical, building accessories, and appliance maintenance and repair tasks.

    Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management protection techniques.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in the use, maintenance and repair of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

    Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to respond to emergency situations and public service requests.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Required to operate a state vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
