Job description

TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation opportunities for present and future generations.

PLEASE NOTE:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision, performs routine fish and wildlife conservation work, habitat management, infrastructure maintenance, data collection, and public outreach at designated WMAs. Assists with research, public hunts, and volunteer coordination. Works independently with minimal supervision and complies with all agency rules and procedures.

NOTE: Current TPWD Fish & Wildlife Technicians I-II may apply at their current classification and salary rate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Two years relevant experience.

Licensure: Valid Texas Class “A” Commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days; Non-commercial Applicator license within 1 year; NWCG Fire Fighter Type II certification within 1 year. Retention contingent on maintaining licenses and certifications.

Physical Requirements: Pass the FFTII moderate or arduous duty fitness standard within one year.

Substitutions: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may substitute for experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years in wildlife management, farm/ranch operations, or heavy equipment operation; valid Class “A” CDL; NWCG Fire Fighter II certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of regional wildlife and habitats; herbicide application; proficiency in MS Office; effective communication skills; operating farming, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery; manual labor capacity; ability to work independently and in teams; record-keeping and report writing; safety compliance.

Working Conditions: Standard hours, with possible overtime, outdoor work in various weather and remote conditions, heavy physical labor, travel, and operation of heavy machinery. Must pass drug screening and adhere to safety standards.
