Celnet is seeking an experienced Tower Technician III / Top Hand (Tower Climber) to join our wireless communications team. The Top Hand is responsible for leading and performing tower construction, installation, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting activities while working safely and efficiently both on the tower and on the ground.
The ideal candidate will have strong tower climbing experience, excellent safety awareness, leadership skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting the Foreman and Construction Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform tower climbing and ground-level activities during wireless construction and maintenance projects.
- Install, replace, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot wireless telecommunications equipment as directed by the Foreman or Construction Manager.
- Work safely at elevated heights and ensure the safety of yourself and other crew members.
- Lead by example and promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism, cost control, and proper asset management.
- Follow all company safety procedures, jobsite requirements, and applicable OSHA and industry standards.
- Inspect, maintain, and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), including climbing harnesses, helmets, climbing equipment, and fall-protection systems.
- Complete required daily safety and equipment logs.
- Assist with daily job planning and preparation to ensure efficient travel and completion of work at assigned sites.
- Properly operate and maintain company vehicles, tools, phones, computers, cameras, PPE, and other assigned equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the Foreman, Construction Manager, team members, customers, and corporate personnel.
- Use email, telephone, and other company communication systems as required.
- Identify jobsite issues and assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Support and train less-experienced tower technicians when needed.
- Respond to emergency call-outs and work irregular hours when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of recent tower climbing or similar wireless telecommunications experience.
- Current ComTrain or equivalent Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue Certification – REQUIRED.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a clean driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel 100% of the time.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly and unassisted.
- Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Availability to work irregular hours, including weekends and emergency call-outs when required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Strong understanding of tower climbing safety and fall-protection practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional OSHA certifications, including OSHA 30.
- Previous experience as a Tower Technician II/III, Top Hand, or similar role.
- Experience installing, replacing, and troubleshooting wireless telecommunications equipment.
- Experience leading or mentoring other tower technicians.
- Experience working with major wireless carriers and their site requirements.
Physical Requirements:
The Tower Technician III / Top Hand must be physically capable of performing demanding tower and construction work.
The position requires the ability to:
- Climb towers, ladders, and elevated structures.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work at heights for extended periods.
- Use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Wear required PPE and fall-protection equipment.
- Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Perform work at active construction and telecommunications sites.
This position is primarily performed outdoors and at telecommunications construction sites. Employees may be exposed to:
- Extreme weather conditions.
- Fumes and airborne particles.
