Job description

Position: Tower Technician II (Seasonal, Fixed Term). Location: Alaska. The role involves construction and maintenance of telecommunications towers in extreme Arctic environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general construction and maintenance of tower sites, including site layout, excavation, foundations, erection, installation, and repair.
  • Install microwave antenna systems and associated components, perform alignment and cross‑polarization.
  • Install tower hardware, conduct grounding, weather‑proofing, and testing.
  • Operate rigging equipment and crane signaling for tower erection.
  • Climb to heights up to 300ft in rural arctic conditions and perform physical labor such as lifting, balancing, and stair‑like movements.
  • Work collaboratively with other trades and provide assistance when needed.
  • Submittal of required paperwork to Project Management and Accounting on time.
  • Adhere to and help enforce the company‑wide safety plan; report incidents to Risk Manager.
  • Mentor less experienced laborers; act as a supportive team member.
  • Maintain clean and functional field quarters including cooking and cleaning duties.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and relevant certifications.
  • Participate in training, development opportunities, and maintain high alertness for safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of tower construction, climbing gear, rigging, and safety.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, rigging, rope and knot tying.
  • Ability to safely use harnesses, belts, ropes, and protective equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Strong self‑motivation and ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, regulations, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and travel up to 100% of the time to remote sites.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years or more experience in construction, with at least three (3) years specific to tower erection in rural arctic environments.
  • Prior experience working with microwave antennas and sweeping waveguide.
  • Tower Safety and Rescue Certification obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Rigging certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • CDL within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • First Aid/CPR training, or ability to become certified.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualification to operate vehicles per company Driving Policy.
  • Pass drug, driving (if applicable), and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Alaska’s rural construction industry.
