Job summary

STG Inc is seeking a Tower Foreman to lead telecommunications tower construction, microwave installation, and related civil work across Alaska. What can you expect?

As the Tower Foreman, you will work onsite in Alaska and will be responsible for leading and supervising all field activities associated with telecommunications tower construction, microwave system installation, and related civil construction projects throughout Alaska. You will direct daily work activities for tower crews and subcontractors, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards. You will serve as the primary on-site leader, coordinating manpower, equipment, materials, logistics, and safety compliance while maintaining regular communication with Project Management regarding project progress, field conditions, and resource needs. This position routinely performs tower erection, microwave installation, maintenance, and general construction work in remote and austere environments while promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.

How will you do it?

Lead and supervise all field activities for telecommunications tower construction, microwave installation, civil construction, maintenance, and repair projects. Report to the Project Manager to receive project directives and coordinate execution of site-specific work plans. Plan, organize, assign, and supervise daily work activities to maximize crew productivity and project efficiency. Execute project work in accordance with contract requirements, drawings, specifications, schedules, and company quality standards. Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontractors to support project execution. Regularly communicate with Project Management and Procurement & Logistics regarding project status, material requirements, equipment needs, schedule updates, and field conditions. Prepare, complete, and submit daily reports, timecards, production reports, safety documentation, inspection reports, and other required project documentation in a timely manner. Train, mentor, evaluate, and develop crew members while providing leadership, coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action as needed. Delegate work assignments based on employee skill level, project priorities, and changing field conditions. Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and safe work practices among all crew members. Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and work planning discussions. Support and enforce the Company's Health and Safety Program and ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, customer requirements, and project-specific safety plans. Verify required personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, rigging equipment, rescue equipment, and other safety equipment are available, inspected, and properly used. Monitor job site safety and immediately suspend or modify unsafe work practices when necessary. Investigate and report accidents, incidents, near misses, injuries, and unsafe conditions in accordance with company procedures. Serve as the primary field contact for employee safety concerns. Perform telecommunications tower erection, structural modifications, microwave antenna installation, equipment installation, maintenance, and repair. Install microwave antennas, waveguide, coaxial cable, fiber, grounding systems, weatherproofing materials, and associated telecommunications equipment. Align, test, and cross-polarize microwave antenna systems. Perform tower rigging, crane signaling, lifting operations, and material handling activities. Perform general civil construction activities including excavation, foundations, concrete work, site preparation, and equipment installation. Operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and specialized telecommunications installation equipment. Climb telecommunications towers up to 300 feet while working safely at heights in varying weather conditions. Perform physically demanding work including climbing, lifting, carrying, kneeling, bending, balancing, and working in remote environments for extended periods. Assist other construction trades as needed to support overall project completion. Travel throughout Alaska to support remote construction projects (up to 100% travel). Maintain required certifications, licenses, and training required by law, customers, or company policy. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Functions

This position directly supervises assigned tower crew members and coordinates the work of subcontractors while on project sites. Responsibilities include assigning work, monitoring productivity, providing training and mentorship, evaluating performance, promoting safety compliance, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with project requirements, company policies, and quality standards.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of telecommunications tower construction methods, materials, equipment, terminology, and industry best practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of tower climbing, fall protection systems, rigging practices, rescue procedures, and applicable OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise crews, coordinate work activities, mentor employees, and maintain project productivity.
  • Knowledge of microwave communications systems, antenna installation, grounding systems, waveguide, coaxial cable, and related telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, specifications, tower drawings, and manufacturer installation requirements.
  • Proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools, rigging equipment, rope systems, and knot‑tying techniques required for tower erection, maintenance, and material handling.
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management.
  • Strong self‑motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision.
  • Ability to safely utilize electronic test equipment and other specialized tools in performance of duties.
  • Ability to safely use harnesses, belts, ropes, and any other required protective equipment gear required to meet all duties of position.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
