Job summary

Ontivity, LLC is seeking a lead tower technician to direct the erection, construction, and maintenance of wireless towers. You will supervise tower crews, ensure OSHA compliance, and support project management with safe, high-quality work in outdoor environments.

This safety-sensitive role requires climbing up to 500 feet, extended travel (80–100%), and a strong focus on risk mitigation while mentoring junior crew members.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; safety training and rigging coursework preferred.
  • Tower climbing safety and rescue certification is required, with strong fall protection knowledge.
  • Experience with rigging, coax/fiber installation, and installation of up-top equipment.
  • Ability to read drawings, piping diagrams, and job specs; willingness to travel up to 80–100%.

  • Lead work on tower top ensuring safe, quality installations (rigging, hoisting, fastening).
  • Install up-top equipment including masts, antennas, cabling, and related components; document outcomes.
  • Perform cable installation, testing, weatherproofing, labeling, and accuracy checks; assist closeout requirements.

Job description

Summary:

Responsible for leading efforts for the erection, construction, and/or maintenance of wireless towers. Provide assistance to Foreman/Construction Manager and Project Manager by direct supervision of all tower personnel. Ensure all OSHA requirements and company procedures are followed.

This is a safety sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead work on tower top, looking after all aspects of work while on the tower, ensuring that a safe and quality installation has been performed, including rigging, hoisting, landing, fastening, loadhopping, etc.
  • Installation of up-top equipment including masts, clamping, bracing, supports, antennas, RRUs, cabling, bolting, true-ing up, shooting proper azimuth within tolerances, reading maps and a compass, torqueing to spec, labeling, picture-taking, documentation, plumb and tilt readings with smart level, etc. Assist with integrating all closeout requirements are an absolute must.
  • Perform coax, fiber, lines, and hybrid cable installation, connector installation, sweep and testing assisting, weather proofing, color-coding, labeling, etc. connect coax feedlines and jumpers per piping diagrams, and support and fasten adequately for a quality, lasting installation.
  • Do grounding, terminations, fastening, proper bolting and antioxidant use, support of leads, cadwelding as required, etc.
  • Assist on overall job, all tasks required to build and install a site per customer specs, maintain safe work environment, daily use and completion of Jobsite Safety Assessment (JSA) forms, assisting with overall crew work, maintenance of vehicles and equipment, etc.
  • Ensure highest level of safety and quality control requirements are upheld and mentor less experienced crew members in safety awareness.
  • Able to photograph work tasks as needed for close out packages, ensuring all safety regulations are in place
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation and cleaning of sites.
  • Help lead the efforts in the assembly of monopole, self-support guyed towers and roof tops
  • Assist in the antenna installation of microwave parabolic 1 to 15 foot, VHF, UHF, cellular and FM broadcast antennas is required
  • Lead the transmission line and installation
  • Must be willing to continue to work towards training and certifications for tower related work.
  • Must know how to read and understand drawings, piping diagrams, job specifications, mounting specs, testing procedures, etc.
  • Able to lead safety tool meeting as required
  • Responsible for own tool inventory and upkeep daily on job site
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to climb and perform work at various heights, up to 500 feet, for long periods of time and multiple times
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 pounds; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
  • Must be able to pull his/her own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly for long periods of time
  • Must be willing to travel out of market/state, for up to several months at a time (80-100%)
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing and participate in random testing program
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and are required to drive company vehicles. A commercial drivers license (CDL) is a plus
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to operate aerial lifts, man lifts, skid steers and aerial platform equipment
  • Completion of safety LMS and OSHA 10 training preferred as well as competent rigger coursework
  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical or LV electrical connections
  • Completion of Industrial First Aid and rescue training
  • Exceptional knowledge of Fall Protection practice and procedures and tower life saving techniques
  • Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue Certification is required
  • Successful completion of safety in rigging coursework required
Soft Skills:
  • Communicate in person, by phone and radio with supervisor, foreman and co-workers
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
  • Must be able to work with a team, and independently as required
  • Must be able to lead crew in support of foreman
Supervisory Requirements:

This position will directly supervise up to 4 tower personnel.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with overtime requirements.

Travel

Extensive travel is required for this position. Usually between 80 to 100% of the time.

  • Required Education and Experience
    High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); related trade school education preferred
  • Three years’ experience in climbing towers, stacking, rigging, etc.
