Job summary

City of Elkhart, Indiana is seeking a certified professional air traffic controller for our Aviation department. This role ensures the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic, accurate weather observations, NOTAM dissemination, and coordination of activities on the Airport Operating Area.

The incumbent will collaborate with other divisions to promote safe and efficient operations, maintain logs, respond to emergencies, and uphold FAA regulations in a busy tower environment.

Qualifications

• Two years of college or military/technical ATC training.
• Six months' ATC experience at Level 1 VFR facility or higher.
• Must have a control tower operator certificate.
• Weather Observer's certificate required.
• FAA Class II medical certificate required.
• Must know FAA rules and regs.

Responsibilities

• Separate IFR and VFR traffic, issue clearances within 5 NM and up to 3000 ft AGL.
• Coordinate sequences with South Bend Approach Control.
• Observe and record hourly weather; FAA 7340.1 observations.
• Disseminate NOTAMs and PIREPs.
• Coordinate response of Crash Fire Rescue and other emergency vehicles.
• Monitor tower security and restrict access.
