GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for leading and managing the tourism initiatives of the County. This position oversees marketing campaigns, partnerships, and community engagement efforts to enhance tourism-related economic growth. The Manager develops and executes strategic plans to attract visitors, promote local attractions, and strengthen the area's reputation as a premier travel destination. The manager is responsible for oversight of the county Agri-Civic Center and related activities. The Manager will lead the daily operations, promotional activities, event bookings and community outreach. Develops, directs, and manages a variety of special community, cultural, or other events ensuring a well maintained and welcoming venue for public use. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant County Administrator – Community Services and is reviewed through meetings, reports, and evaluation of results.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive tourism strategy to promote local attractions, events, and experiences.
- Lead marketing, advertising, and public relations efforts to increase visitor engagement and tourism revenue.
- Establish partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, and tourism-related organizations to enhance promotional efforts.
- Oversee the development and distribution of promotional materials, including brochures, websites, social media content, and digital campaigns.
- Analyze tourism trends, collect visitor data, and create reports to assess the effectiveness of marketing strategies.
- Represent the tourism department at industry conferences, networking events, and community meetings.
- Pursuing funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships, to support tourism initiatives.
- Develop and administer a broad and diversified schedule of activities and events to meet public needs, oversee the organization and conduct of community programs and activities including management of space, facilities, and related administrative services.
- Oversees management of the county Agri-civic Center facility and associated projects. Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range marketing and operating plans. Works with event organizers, businesses, and community groups to increase facility bookings.
- Manages and supervises operations to achieve goals within available resources reviews activities and directs changes as needed.
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote facility and events. Creates promotional materials including digital content, and social media campaigns to attract new clients. Promotes interest in the facility and associated programs through community groups, public contacts, and special interest groups. Delivers presentations to boards, civic groups, and the general public.
- Prepare reports on event attendance, revenue, and marketing effectiveness. Seeks sponsorships to support events and improvements.
- Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control; prepares an annual budget; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, facilities, and time.
- Performs a variety of responsible duties and activities related to the development of special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Maintains good working relationships and coordination with other county departments, members of the general public and federal, state, and local agencies, officers, and officials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
- (2) Years experience working with local government, tourism boards, or economic development organizations.
- Community relations experience
