Job summary

The City of Miami Beach seeks an experienced leader to oversee Tourism and Culture, guiding signature events, public programming and arts initiatives that amplify the city’s brand and economic activity.

You will coordinate across city departments, manage high-profile events, and develop partnerships with arts, hospitality and business sectors to advance cultural priorities. This senior role focuses on strategic planning, program delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or related field.
• 10 years of experience in government or hospitality or cultural industry.
• Experience working with neighborhood groups and industry groups.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the creation, implementation and periodic review of the Cultural Master Plan.
• Oversee the issuance of Special Events Permits with required documents and fees.
• Coordinate and monitor all facets before, during (on-site) and after events.
• Facilitate targeted events such as Air and Sea Show, Independence Day, Cultural Crawl.
• Develop sponsorship agreements for City-sponsored events.
• Maintain a synopsis of all events for reference and data.
• Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations, sponsors, artists and vendors.
• Oversee Art in Public Places program from Call to Artist through installation.
• Oversees the Cultural Grants programs, including evaluation and processing of reimbursements.

Job description

This is responsible and advanced professional work overseeing Tourism and Culture for the City, with a primary emphasis on the overseeing, coordination, and execution of special events and citywide activations. The position leads the development and delivery of a diverse portfolio of signature events, festivals, and public programming that enhances the Miami Beach brand, engages residents and visitors, and drives economic activity with the primary goal of position Miami Beach as a premier destination. The role also provides oversight of cultural arts initiatives, including public art and cultural programming, ensuring alignment with the City’s identity and strategic priorities. Work involves extensive coordination across City departments and contacts with government officials, public, private and non-profit agencies, the business and development community, citizen groups, advisory boards.

• Oversee the creation, implementation and periodic review of the Cultural Master Plan.
• Oversee the issuance of City of Miami Beach Special Events Permits which includes, but is not limited to, proper insurance certificates, indemnity agreements for legal documentation, applications, and permit fees to assure compliance with city/state and federal regulations
• Make recommendations to City Administration as to whether special events should be authorized to be held within the City of Miami Beach
• Coordinates and monitors all facets prior to, during (on-site) and after action for all events
• Facilitates specific/targeted events (e.g., Air and Sea Show, Independence Day, Cultural Crawl)
• Develops and manages sponsorship agreements for City sponsored events
• Maintains a synopsis of all events, for future reference and data
• Compiles and disseminates weekly special event calendar outlining the weeks activities, special events listings, describing what, where and when events will be held and the venue, hours and a brief description of those activities
• Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations, sponsors, artists, and vendors to support event production and programming
• Responsible for the City’s Art in Public Places program from Call to Artist through installation and long term presentation of the artwork
• Oversees the City’s Cultural Grants programs, including supporting evaluation and scoring of grant applications by the Cultural Arts council, grant compliance, and processing of grant reimbursement packages.
• Develop alliances with key business sectors- Arts, Hospitality, International Business, Culture, Entertainment and Tourism
• Prepares RFP’s for diverse projects related to the departments work plan
• Performs related work as required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration or related to the occupational field.
• 10 years’ experience in government or in the hospitality or cultural industry, with specific experience in tourism, special events and the arts.
• Experience working with neighborhood groups and relevant industry groups
