Job Description
The MSU Tour Guide team leads prospective students, admitted students and their support systems, as well as campus visitors, and alumni on tours of Michigan State University’s campus. MSU Tour Guides provide insight into the college experience, showcase our beautiful campus and its history, reconnect alumni with campus, and share their unique Spartan Stories on every tour. Tour Guides are expected to be friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about MSU . Tour Guides take pride in delivering an outstanding Spartan experience to their guests. Tours are currently offered both in-person and virtually.

Interviews will take place as soon as June 12. Candidates will be expected to schedule a 30-minute interview slot to be considered for the position. Hiring decisions will be made prior June 20. New Tour Guides are required to attend a paid multi-day training program (TG101) the last two weeks of June. Please note that the employment offer is conditional based on the approved graduation of the “TG101” training program.
We are currently looking for guides to start SUMMER 2025 to assist with our tours as soon as July 1. Tours run Monday-Friday at 10:30a-12:30p and 1:30p-3:30p, and guides can work up to 40 hours total per week across all MSU positions.

  • Respect in interactions with guests, colleagues, and supervisors from all backgrounds and identities.
  • Work a minimum of one tour every pay period (bi-weekly).
  • Comfortable leading tour programming out of the MSU Union.
  • Attend all training sessions including All-Staff Monthly Meetings, Semester Trainings, and any supplemental All-Staff training sessions.
  • Tour Guides will be expected to work Move-in/Fall Welcome shifts prior to the start of the Fall semester.
  • Check and respond to MSU Tours emails and review D2L notifications and updates on a regular basis.
  • Active participation in program offerings to facilitate personal and professional growth.

Required Qualifications
  • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at MSU with good academic standing
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on public speaking
  • Ability to conduct campus tours of up to 2 miles in length in all-weather within prescribed time limits either through walking or by use of a personal mobility aid via campus sidewalks (typically between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the route).
Preferred Qualifications

Work Hours

Tours are offered seven days a week and at a wide variety of times to accommodate different time zones. Scheduling is flexible around class and academic commitments.
