An engineer in this role develops strategies and solutions to ensure Apple products meet high standards in touch performance, hardware, and user experience.

Description

The engineer acting as a Direct Responsible Individual will be responsible for:

  1. Defining and architecting solutions to solve complex open-ended test and validation problems.
  2. Developing and validating analytical models to understand test system interactions with touch sensors.
  3. Driving strategies with multi-disciplinary teams, including test, algorithm, firmware, software, mechanical design, and reliability engineering, to translate open-ended validation problems into actionable plans and deliverables.
  4. Designing metrics and figures of merit to guide touch design and performance tracking.
  5. Leading the development and execution of engineering validation and characterization methodologies for Apple’s touch solutions across different products.
  6. Architecting and designing hardware and software infrastructure for innovative test solutions.
  7. Managing vendors to implement validation tools, plans, and infrastructure.
  8. Performing failure mode analysis using advanced tools to identify root causes.
  9. Authoring reports and communications regarding key concepts, results, and checkpoints.

Business travel (up to 20% domestic and international) to support product development is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong electrical engineering background in analog/mixed-signal testing methodologies or prior industry experience in validation/test efforts.
  • Multidisciplinary understanding of EE, ME, and physics principles.
  • High proficiency in scripting languages like MATLAB/Python for software and algorithm prototyping and analysis.
  • Willingness to take on multiple roles and dive deep into issues, including breaking down existing algorithms.
  • Experience in hardware prototyping, Design of Experiments (DoE), Failure Analysis (FA), and Corrective Actions (CA).
  • Proficiency in data visualization and statistical analysis tools such as Tableau, SpotFire, JMP, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with touch technology is a plus.
