Job Summary
Wellstar Douglas Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Total Joint Orthopedic Surgeon to join our growing orthopedic team. The ideal candidate will provide expert care in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of total joint replacement surgeries, including hip, knee, and shoulder procedures, to help improve the quality of life for our patients. Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with joint disorders, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other degenerative conditions requiring total joint replacement.
- Perform total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, revisions, and other related surgical procedures, including minimally invasive techniques when appropriate.
- Provide pre-operative assessments and post-operative care, ensuring optimal recovery and outcomes.
- Conduct non-surgical management of joint conditions, including physical therapy recommendations, injections, and pain management strategies.
- Collaborate with patients to develop personalized treatment plans that align with their goals and lifestyle.
- Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Care:
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of orthopedic specialists, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Participate in case discussions and multidisciplinary rounds to ensure best practices and improve patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families on surgical options, expected outcomes, and post-surgical care to ensure understanding and realistic expectations.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Ensure all patient records, surgical notes, and treatment plans are accurately documented in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Comply with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and other standards, to maintain patient confidentiality and safety.
- Surgical Procedures and On-call Duties:
- Perform total joint surgeries, including primary and revision surgeries for the hip, knee, and shoulder.
- Participate in the hospital's on-call rotation as needed for urgent orthopedic consults or emergencies.
- Patient Education and Follow-up:
- Educate patients on post-surgical rehabilitation, physical therapy exercises, and pain management strategies.
- Conduct routine follow-up appointments to monitor patient recovery and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
- Professional Development and Research:
- Stay up to date with the latest advances in orthopedic techniques and research, particularly in the area of total joint replacement.
- Participate in continuing education, conferences, and seminars to maintain professional certifications and expertise.
- Opportunity for involvement in clinical research projects related to joint replacement surgery.
Required Qualifications- Education:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an orthopedic residency program.
- Fellowship training in Total Joint Arthroplasty or Adult Reconstruction Orthopedics is preferred.
- Licensure & Certification:
- Board Certification or eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS).
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Georgia.
- Current DEA license.
- BLS/ACLS certification.
- Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of experience performing total joint replacement surgeries in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
- Proficiency in primary and revision surgeries for hip, knee, and shoulder joints.
- Strong knowledge of the latest surgical techniques and technology for joint replacement.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent surgical skills and a patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Strong communication skills to effectively educate patients and their families about treatment options and expectations.
- Ability to maintain a calm and compassionate demeanor under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in minimally invasive joint replacement techniques.
- Familiarity with robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery is a plus.
- Experience in a hospital setting serving a diverse patient population.
Work Environment & Conditions- Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday with occasional evening or weekend hours based on patient needs and on-call responsibilities.
- Location: Wellstar Douglas Hospital, located in Douglasville, GA.
- Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods during surgeries, lifting and moving patients, and performing other physically demanding tasks may be required.
