Job summary

Sweetwater County School District 2 is hiring a Total Care Paraprofessional at Harrison Elementary School. Under supervision, you will assist certified staff in providing comprehensive care and educational support to students with significant physical, medical, behavioral, and personal care needs.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to implement IEPs, health plans, and safety procedures while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality throughout the school day.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with significant physical, medical, developmental, and/or behavioral disabilities with activities of daily living for participation in educational activities.
  • Provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, hygiene, lifting, transferring, positioning, and mobility support as required by student needs.
  • Assists students individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction and implement educational, behavioral, communication, and therapeutic programs under supervision.
  • Assists with implementation of student IEP goals, behavior intervention plans, medical plans, and safety procedures.
  • Supports classroom behavioral management strategies to maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
  • Monitors student safety and well-being throughout the school day across activities and transitions.
  • Assists with feeding programs, adaptive equipment, mobility devices, communication systems, sensory supports, and other supports as directed.
  • Accompanies students during field trips, community activities, and school events as assigned.
  • Assists teachers and staff with preparation, organization, and distribution of instructional materials.
  • Maintains documentation and records related to student care and services as required.
  • Participates in IEP meetings, trainings, and collaborative team meetings as requested.
  • Follows district safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and regulations for supporting students with disabilities.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and respects students and families.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervising staff consistent with position responsibilities

Total Care Paraprofessional
Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with total care students to provide positive learning experiences in a safe learning enviroment for our students. Expectations of working as a cohesive team to support colleagues and students in a wide variety of tasks throughtout the school day to ensure opportunities for success.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists students with significant physical, medical, developmental, and/or behavioral disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing participation in educational and school activities
  • Provides personal care assistance including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, hygiene, lifting, transferring, positioning, and mobility support as required by individual student needs
  • Assists students individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction and implement educational, behavioral, communication, and therapeutic programs under the direction of certified staff and related service providers
  • Assists with implementation of student IEP goals, behavior intervention plans, medical plans, and safety procedures
  • Supports classroom behavioral management strategies to maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
  • Monitors student safety and well-being throughout the school day, including during classroom instruction, transitions, meals, recess, transportation, and community-based activities
  • Assists with feeding programs, adaptive equipment, mobility devices, communication systems, sensory supports, and other specialized student supports as directed
  • Assists students in non-instructional settings including playground supervision, lunch supervision, bus loading/unloading, hallway transitions, and emergency drills
  • Accompanies and assists students during field trips, community activities, and other school-related events as assigned
  • Assists teachers and related service staff with preparation, organization, adaptation, and distribution of instructional and support materials
  • Maintains documentation and records related to student care, behavior, services, and assigned duties as required
  • Participates in IEP meetings, training opportunities, and collaborative team meetings as requested
  • Follows all district safety procedures, universal precautions, confidentiality requirements, and regulations related to supporting students with disabilities and specialized health care needs

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Qualifications Profile
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of college level coursework (48 credits) or passing of the ParaPro Exam
  • Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
