Job summary

Vallarta Supermarkets TORTILLERÍA Clerk role producing tortilla products using traditional processes, supporting quality, freshness, and service standards.

You will prepare masa, fry and cook tortilla products, stock and rotate items, and provide excellent customer service while adhering to Vallarta’s food safety and sanitation guidelines. Must be able to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Smile, greet, and assist customers with tortilla and specialty product orders.
• Prepare masa, fry and cook tortilla products, and ensure quality/weight/appearance.
• Stock, rotate, and replenish products; keep displays fresh and properly stored.
• Package, weigh, and label tortillas; transport products to and from storage.
• Clean equipment and work areas; follow clean-as-you-go practices and MSDS.
• Follow health regulations and Vallarta’s Tortillería Safety Program.
• Assist coworkers and participate in training new employees.
• Perform additional tasks to support department operations and customer satisfaction.

About the Role

TheTortilleríaClerk produces tortilla products using traditional processes while supporting the department’s goals for quality, freshness, and service. This role prepares masa,friestortilla products, stocks androtatesitems, and provides excellent customer service whilemaintainingVallarta’shigh standardsof food safety and sanitation.

WhatYou’llDo

• Customer Service: Smile, greet, andassistcustomers with tortilla and specialty product orders.


• Production: Prepare masa, fry and cook tortilla products, and ensure consistency in quality, weight, and appearance.


• Merchandising: Stock, rotate, and replenish products; keep displays fresh, attractive, and at proper storage temperatures.


• Operations: Package, weigh, and label flour and corn tortillas; transport products to and from storage.


• Sanitation & Safety: Cleannixtamaltanks, equipment, and work areas; sweep, mop, and follow “clean as you go” practices. Use approved cleaning chemicals and follow MSDS principles.


• Compliance: Follow health department regulations, food safety practices, and Vallarta’sTortilleríaSafety Program. Ensure weights, measures, and labeling laws are followed.


• Teamwork: Assistcoworkers, participatein training new employees, andmaintaincommunication with theTortilleríaManager.


• Other Duties: Performadditionaltasksassigned to support department operations and customer satisfaction.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk forlong periods(6–8 hours/day).


• Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.


• Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.


• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.frequentlyand up to 50 lbs. occasionally (dry corn,maseca).


• Heaviest item carried: 50 lbs.; longest distance: 10 feet.


• Work near cooking equipment, fryers, and tortilla machinery.


• Exposure todust, gas, fumes, heat,andhumidity.


• May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).


• May drive forklifts, carts, or other moving equipment.

WhatWe’reLooking For

• Ability to learn tortilla production from dry corn to finished product.


• Familiarity withtortilleríaequipment, tools, and ovens (or willingness to learn).


• Team-oriented withstrong communicationand customer service skills.


• Responsible, professional, and positive attitude.


• Basicunderstanding ofEnglishlanguage.


• Must be able to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute.


• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.


• Exposure toperishable products, cooking equipment, and changing conditions.

• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
