Job summary

United Scrap Metal Inc in Largo, FL is seeking a dedicated Torch Operator to sort, cut and prepare metal to customer specifications while following safety protocols. You will report to the Torch Operator Supervisor and work with other operations leaders to keep production moving.

Qualifications

• Must possess basic reading and writing comprehension in English.
• Ability to be trained and certified to operate either a skid steer loader or crane.
• Must perform the physical tasks of the job such as walking, standing, bending and/or sitting for extended periods of time in a confined space (equipment cabin).
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform team lifts for heavier pieces.
• Must wear PPE such as torch uniform, face shield, respirator, safety shoes per OSHA regulations.
• Must be able to hold the torch throughout the scheduled shift.
• Able to fulfill flexible scheduling requirements as determined by the manager.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to manually spread out, sort and segregate material.
• Safely use a gas-powered torch to cut material per customer specification.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
• Works quickly to meet department and company goals while following safety and health policies.
• Operates in extreme heat, cold, dusty, dirty, and/or wet conditions.
