Job description

Overview

Following standard procedures, the Toolroom Attendant will maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies; dispense materials to students, maintain areas in a clean and orderly fashion; assist faculty and School office with ordering materials; make minor repairs to tools and equipment. Position follows a 185-day annual work calendar. Travel off-campus with use of a College vehicle. May require some evening hours.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED. Required
  • Education, training, and/or work experience that qualifies a person to perform above duties and provides a working knowledge of terminology, tools, supplies and equipment/materials appropriate to the HVAC/Plumbing trade. Required
  • Diploma from a technical high school or trade school. Preferred
  • Training in manual or computerized inventory. Preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Forklift Certification Certified forklift training or ability to obtain. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in HVAC/Plumbing or related area. Required
  • Familiarity with standard HVAC/Plumbing tools and equipment. Required
  • Experience with operation of computerized inventory. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form. Required
  • Ability to read and to perform basic arithmetic. Required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty and public. Required

  • Ability to use or learn to use a computer spreadsheet or database to inventory supplies. Required
  • Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required
Responsibilities
  • Conduct inventory of consumable instructional supplies and equipment for HVAC/Plumbing.
  • Evaluate and report to the Assistant Dean the need for repairs performed by the Vendor, contact Vendor if needed, and oversee major repair work performed by outside vendors.
  • Direct the activities of Work-study students.
  • Assist faculty with overseeing students in clean-up of instructional areas, demolition of projects, and salvage of materials.
  • Work with Department Head and faculty to minimize waste and maximize recycling of instructional materials.
  • Ensure that new equipment has a Penn College inventory number.
  • Operate forklift to complete required responsibilities and duties.
  • Promote safety practices and procedures and maintain Right-to-Know (e.g. MSDS) literature.
  • Store, dispense, receive, and check tools, equipment, and instructional supplies used by faculty and students.
  • Verify that written requisitions from students and staff correctly match items being checked in or out.
  • Maintain clean and orderly arrangement of toolroom and contents.
  • Maintain inventory of expendable supplies and notify School office as supplies are depleted to enable timely reordering.
  • Receive and check delivered supplies, and process the receivers.
  • Perform and record minor maintenance and repairs (e.g., parts replacement) on tools/equipment/machines.
  • Promptly report loss, theft, or breakage of tools, equipment, and supplies to the Assistant Dean or designated faculty person.
  • Load and deliver scrap to recycling center.
Physical Standards and Special Job Features

Occasional heavy lifting not to exceed 60 lbs. Occasional use of ladder/scaffolding.

Pay Transparency

$17.25 per hour.
