Job summary

General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Toolmakers) to work with minimal supervision and independent problem-solving in a dynamic environment. The role requires handling multiple assignments per shift, reading blueprints, and maintaining a broad range of equipment such as CNC machines and conveyors.

Eligible applicants must have at least six years of mechanical trade experience or a related tools certificate, be 18+, and legally able to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• At least six (6) years of related experience in a Mechanical trade or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a Mechanical trade.
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete General Motors hiring process requirements including comprehensive assessments, drug testing, and a background check.
• At least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
• Willing to work flexible shift hours including day, afternoon or night shifts as well as overtime, weekends and holidays.
• GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures per OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery.
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems.
• Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings.
• Read and interpret blueprints for conveyor systems, material handling systems, robots, and other automation.
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, lifts, or cranes.
• Set up and operate CNC machine tools to cut, bore, grind, or shape parts to dimensions.
• Plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools or assemblies from blueprints or models.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances using calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, and dial indicators.
