Job description

Description

This Toolmaker position is that of a highly skilled, highly motivated person, who can work closely with the Production and Engineering teams, to develop new products In I.C.O.P. and Baird style transfer presses. This position requires the ability to develop creative solutions, through R&D and collaboration, to get from design to full production. The ability to work in a team environment, while possessing strong communication and troubleshooting skills are required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and maintain production on a full range of ICOP and Baird style presses as well as auxiliary equipment.
  • Work directly with engineering for initial tool design, prototypes, as well as improvements needed for current production tools.
  • Ability to train less skilled team members and apprentices.
  • Support other development and production teams as required.
  • Build and assemble custom tooling, gages, jigs, fixtures, and test equipment.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, hand tools, welding, and other shop equipment.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
  • Perform work to meet AS9100, IATF16949 and/or ISO13485 manufacturing standards.
  • Additional duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Toolmaker Position Requirements
  • Having successfully completed a certified State Approved Apprenticeship or equivalent machine tool experience
  • 5 years minimum experience setting up, maintaining, and developing precision, high quality deep drawn metal components.
  • Proficient use of all manual tool room equipment.
  • Extensive background with building precision tooling, in both steel and carbide, for transfer presses.
  • Knowledge and use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Extensive background in deep draw, holding close tolerances, using a variety of materials.
  • Advanced knowledge in the theory of cutting and forming as it relates to the stamping and deep draw processes. The ability to read a sample line to determine the potential for part failure.
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to follow verbal instruction, read and comprehend blueprints including G.D&T.
  • U.S. Person - This position requires potential access to technology controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The successful candidate must be a “U.S. Person” as defined under ITAR and EAR. In order to be a U.S. Person for ITAR and EAR purposes, you must (i) be a citizen or national of the United States; or (ii) be a lawful permanent resident of the United States; or (iii) a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
Toolmaker Preferred Requirements
  • Knowledge of roll threading, beading, notching and side piercing.
  • Basic knowledge of progressive tooling
  • Basic understanding of secondary operations and power presses.
  • Basic welding.
Physical Conditions
  • Normal manufacturing working environment
  • Lift, push and/or pull 50 pounds.
  • Stand at least 95% of scheduled shift.
  • Routinely perform reaching, twisting, bending, and grasping to move and set tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Some exposure to noise, dirt, chemicals, and temperature variations (while using OSHA relevant PPE).
