Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or relevant coursework in mold maintenance, machining, or related fields preferred.
  • No prior experience required; experience in manufacturing, technical, or mechanical environments is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, measuring instruments, and general mechanical principles.
  • Strong attention to detail, precision, and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to learn and apply detailed work instructions and maintenance procedures.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving with a proactive attitude.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Mold Cleaning and Inspection: Clean and inspect molds to ensure they are free from defects, damage, or wear.
  • Basic Repairs: Learn and perform basic mold maintenance and repairs under supervision.
  • Maintenance Documentation: Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in logs.
  • Tool Handling and Equipment Use: Safely operate manual tools and basic equipment; keep area clean and organized.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow safety protocols and company policies for a safe environment.
  • Communication and Reporting: Report issues to Toolroom Supervisor and communicate with the team.
  • Inventory Support: Help maintain inventory levels for parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in training to build skills in mold maintenance and medical device standards.

Job Summary

The Toolmaker I is an entry-level role that will assist with the maintenance, inspection, and repair of molds used in plastic injection molding for medical device manufacturing. This position offers an opportunity to begin a career in mold maintenance, focusing on the upkeep and functionality of molds to ensure quality and efficiency in production.

Core Hours
  • 1st Shift: M/T/W/TH/F 6:00am to 2:30pm
  • 2nd Shift: M/T/W/TH/F 2:00pm to 10:30pm
  • 3rd Shift: S/M/T/W/TH 10:00pm to 6:30am
  • 4th Shift: S/F/S 6:00am to 6:30pm
  • 5th Shift: S/F/S 6:00pm to 6:30am
Key Responsibilities
  • Mold Cleaning and Inspection: Perform cleaning and inspection of molds used in plastic injection molding processes, ensuring they are free from defects, damage, or wear.
  • Basic Repairs: Learn and perform basic mold maintenance and repairs, such as polishing, minor adjustments, and replacing small components, under the guidance of senior technicians. Learn and assist with advanced repairs.
  • Maintenance Documentation: Follow established procedures to document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately in maintenance logs.
  • Tool Handling and Equipment Use: Safely operate manual tools and basic equipment to assist with mold maintenance tasks; maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements for a safe working environment.
  • Communication and Reporting: Report mold-related issues, findings, and progress to the Toolroom Supervisor or Lead; maintain effective communication with team members.
  • Inventory Support: Assist in maintaining inventory levels for common parts, tools, and supplies, and promptly report shortages or issues to the supervisor.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in training sessions and hands-on learning opportunities to build technical skills, knowledge of mold maintenance processes, and understanding of medical device manufacturing standards.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move molds and equipment, stand for extended periods, and work in various conditions within a manufacturing environment, including confined spaces and heights.
  • Ability to operate various hand and power tools, forklifts, cranes, etc.
  • Ability to use email for internal communication.
Working Conditions
  • Comfortable working in a toolroom environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and various chemicals used in the cleaning and maintenance processes.
  • Compliance with company policies, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
