Job summary

Salas O’Brien in Amarillo, TX seeks an experienced Toolmaker to support precision machining and tooling at the Pantex Plant. Construct, modify, and repair tooling, gages, jigs, fixtures, dies, and components using CNC and conventional tools from engineering drawings and instructions.

The role requires reading detailed drawings, complex setups, and high accuracy. DOE Q clearance and HRP may be required; travel is minimal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent meeting DOE requirements.
• Completion of approved toolmaker apprenticeship or 4+ years of related experience.
• Experience reading sketches and detailed drawings with tolerances.
• Ability to perform complex setups and precise machining to specifications.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and gages.
• Ability to write/edit CNC programs and perform calculations.
• Knowledge of machine operation, tooling, maintenance, and shop safety.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance and HRP certification as required.

Responsibilities

• Operate conventional and CNC machine tools to build and repair tooling and fixtures.
• Plan and perform complex machining from drawings and instructions.
• Set up machines and produce components to tight tolerances.
• Use precision instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.
• Write or edit CNC programs as needed and maintain records.
• Ensure equipment and tooling are maintained and safe.
• Assist in planning and implementing safety controls and procedures.
• Complete required training and maintain qualifications.
