Summary

We are looking for a toolmaker who has experience in analyzing specifications, laying out material stock, setting up and operating machine tools, knowledge of fits and assembly of parts to fabricate and repair jigs and fixtures, gauges, composite molds, specialty machines and specialty tools, applying knowledge of tool shop mathematics, metal properties, and layout, machining, and assembly procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Study specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lift machined parts manually or using a hoist, and position and secure parts on a surface plate or worktable, using devices such as vises, V‑blocks, and angle plates.
  • Smooth flat and contoured surfaces, using files, abrasive stones, and power grinders, and fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms, using hand tools.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers. Work to .0001" tolerances.
  • Document the in‑process inspection procedures in accordance with Quality Assurance Procedure 4.10‑2.
  • Inspect and measure parts to document quality requirements directly to the customer.
  • May connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components.
  • May examine standard or previously used tools, jigs and fixtures and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of the part.
  • May develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch designs or products.
  • Make components for tools, fixtures, and jigs from a blueprint; choose cutting tools, workholding and masoning tools.
  • Perform other related duties or responsibilities as requested or required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be a “U.S. Person” as defined by the U.S. Government and able to work without restrictions with ITAR related data.
  • High School Degree or G.E.D. required.
  • 1+ years of toolmaking experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to read machine dial gauges and precision measuring instruments.

  • Ability to travel 5–10% when required.
